The Arizona Republic's Top 10 high school boys soccer players to start the season

Through the first couple of weeks of the Arizona high school boys soccer season, there have been some amazing performances turned in. Here are The Arizona Republic's Top 10 players so far. Coaches nominated players.

Top 10 Arizona boys soccer players

Through Dec. 7, 2023

1. Leo Gutierrez, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, F, Jr.

Through a 6-0-1 start for the Lancers, he leads the state regardless of conference in scoring with 38 points and goals scored with 18.

2. Angel Bracamontes Pulido, Tucson Sunnyside, MF/F, Jr.

He has scored 11 goals and assisted on seven others for the 7-0 Blue Devils, who are ranked No. 25 in the nation by MaxPreps.

3. Sean Maguire, Tempe Corona del Sol, Striker, Sr.

He has 10 goals and three assists for the 7-0 Aztecs, who are ranked 20th in the nation by MaxPreps. He had a total of three goals and an assist in 2-0 and 3-1 wins over Basha and Liberty, respectively.

4. Tony Carrola, Coolidge, F, Sr.

To open the season, he had four goals in a win against Fountain Hills and another in a win against Eloy Santa Cruz, bringing the team together after Isaac Espinoza was lost for the season with a broken collar bone.

5. Jacob Engwall, Surprise Shadow Ridge

He's led a 7-0 team that MaxPreps has ranked 23rd nationally and won the Men's Varsity Battle of the 303 Tournament, knocking off Paradise Honors (5-2), Verrado (6-0), Cactus (8-0), Sierra Linda (2-0) and Tolleson (1-0). This week in 2-1 win over Cibola and 4-0 win over Maryvale, he also stood out, scoring three goals.

6. Kevin Araujo, Mesa, GK, Sr.

He helped Mesa earn a draw against top-10 San Luis, the first against them in seven years. He had the game-saving stop on a penalty kick and saved another potential late goal to keep a shutout.

 7. Caden Dosmann, Gilbert Perry, F, Sr.

He had four goals and two assists in three wins, leading Pumas into the semifinals of the Coyote Classic.

8. Ethan Olari, Surprise Paradise Honors, Striker, Jr.

He scored four of his team's goals in a 7-2 win over Casa Grande Vista Grande. The schedule picks up with a Monday game against Dysart.

9. Mossi Ombeni, Tucson, MF, So.

He sparked young team that graduated 12 seniors to the final of the Brandon Bean tournament. Down 2-0 in the first five minutes against Tolleson on Thursday, the Badgers ended up winning 4-2, behind his two direct free kicks from 30 yards out.

10. Misael Meza, San Luis, MF, Sr.

In a 6-0 win over West Point, he had a goal in a counter-attack, where he got the ball from behind his team's own half and defenders were unable to catch up to him. He also had three assists in the game.
