Arizona Republic's Top 10 high school baseball Players of the Week

The Arizona high school baseball season opened for many schools last week with showcases. Here are The Arizona Republic's Top 10 Players of the Week based on coaches' nominations. There is a full slate of games this week.

1. Jack Meissner, Brophy Prep, 3B, Sr.

He hit .556 in helping his team go 3-1 in the Adam Donnenfield Classic. He had seven RBIs and hit a grand slam in a 9-8 win over Notre Dame Prep.

2. Michael Nicolini Jr., Paradise Honors, OF/P, Jr.

In a five-inning 13-0 win over Bourgade Catholic, he struck out 14 of the 15 batters he faced.

3. Matthew Gahan, Notre Dame Prep, C, Sr.

He knocked in the only run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Basha 1-0 in the season opener. He went 2 for 3 in the game. He had eight hits in four games.

4. Jayden Guzman, Ironwood, Sr.

He went 6 for 9 with two walks and three RBIs and two run scores in the DBacks Chase Your Dream Classic.

5. Dylan Lopez, Chandler, P/3B, So.

He pitched 6 innings, giving up five hits and no run with three strikeouts against Mesa Mountain View. He also went 5 for 12 at the plate with three RBIs in a tournament.

6. Eli McInturf, Arizona College Prep, LHP, Sr.

In two games, he worked seven innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out 10.

7. Hunter Stockton, Youngker, Sr.

In an 8-2 win over Paradise Valley, he pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and giving up five hits and two runs.

8. Joseph Galvez, Tolleson, OF/LHP, Jr.

In the Wayne DesCombes Westside Preseason Invitational, he was 6 for 12 at the plate with a double and home run and five RBIs. He also pitched 5 2/3 innings, getting a win, and striking out eight.

9. Landon Walker, Tanque Verde, So.

In the Cowboy Up Tournament, he hit .412 with six runs, seven hits, four RBIs, a double, a home run, and three stolen bases.

10. Gustavo Gomez, Douglas, OF/P, Sr.

In the DBacks Chase Your Dreams Classic, he led the team to a 3-1 record, going 8 for 14 with two doubles, two triples, seven RBIs, five runs, and three stolen bases. Pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out six.

Honorable mentions

Cameron Davidson, Canyon View, SS, So.

He hit .450 in four games with four extra-base hits and played great defense at shortstop.

Cody Gallardo, Maricopa, SS, Sr.

He went 9 for 14 with six RBIs, five runs, two doubles and a two-run homer in four games.

Brandon Rodriguez, Desert View, P, Sr.

He went 6 for 11 with four RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases in the Cowboy Up. He pitched four innings, giving up no earned runs, striking out nine and getting a win.

Antonio Arellano, Horizon Honors, Sr.

He hit .455 over four games.

Carlos Gonzalez, Apollo, SS, Jr.

He hit .462 in four games, making amazing plays at shortstop, leading the Hawks to a 3-1 start.

Brady Goodman, Mesa Mountain View, 1B, So.

He hit .625 with two triples, five runs and five RBIs.
