Arizona Diamondbacks fans slammed for low attendance, lack of energy vs. Colorado Rockies
The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of a National League MLB Playoffs Wild Card race.
According to some, they should be drawing more than 12,994 fans, which was the announced attendance for the team's 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.
Yes, there were fewer than 13,000 fans at Chase Field for the game, something that some MLB writers and fans could not comprehend.
They slammed the sparse crowd at the MLB game, calling it "bad optics" and a "dead" atmosphere.
Others, however, pointed out the fact that there was a Drake concert in the Valley that same night as a potential reason for the low number of fans at the game, while the cost, the end of the holiday weekend, the opponent and the ownership of the team were included as other possible excuses for the quiet atmosphere at the game.
The Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria had this to say about the light crowd: "I think in the dugout, obviously, guys were trying to create some energy and some feel. Some of that can be, and I'm not saying this to knock the fans, but when there's not that many people in the building, it tends to feel a little bit dead, too. And I don't think that has anything to do with the way the team in the dugout felt. It's just that, sometimes, when it's quiet in here, it feels a little bit more dead than it actually is. And some of that is on us to be able to bring that energy."

The Dbacks attendance for tonight's game is hard to ignore.

I agree. We have to start expecting more otherwise owners can get away with not spending on the team

The Rockies-Dbacks drew 12,268 for a Cactus League game March 12 at Salt River Fields. Tonight, 12,994 for a pennant race game between the two at Chase Field. Bad optics. @Dbacks @Rockies @Sportico @Grampskie pic.twitter.com/kbpOxIuU8b

Yep crowd’s fault… you’re batting .200 because of the crowd 🙄

A team that gives us Ahmed and Longoria at bats with Lawler tearing it up in Reno, giving us Lovello year after year. Last Friday there was only 18k for the Orioles. Place seems dead unless there’s 30k inside

Nah. Just another Tuesday night at the ballpark. https://t.co/XTeTlyVGnA

Wrong . They drew 30,000 vs the Dodgers on a Tues beginning of Aug. Its the opponent .

Kids have school in the morning and everything is too expensive which is squeezing the middle class budget

The stadium sucks.

Nobody wants to watch Nick Ahmed.

Tuesday after a holiday vs a horrible opponent is a big factor here. That being said, the @Dbacks don’t really act like they’re in a playoff race with guys like Ahmed and Pavin Smith in the lineup so the fans aren’t buying it. Sad to see how poorly this franchise is managed.

There’s about 20,000 people at the Drake concert. That might have something to do with it

A weeknight after a 3 day weekend at a team that has no chance to win the WS and an owner that didnt want to spend money to give them a chance.. Fans aren't stupid.

Ahmed, Smith, Longoria, Peterson, Kennedy, Kelly, Lewis, the @dbacks have rolled out some miserable hitters this yr & failed to address their biggest needs on offense via trade. Today’s attendance proves the fans are sick of it. If the front office isn’t serious why should we be?

Tuesday after a holiday weekend against the Rockies… not to make excuses but all of those things matter. I had to turn down tickets because of a fantasy football draft but was there over the weekend.

This team needs support now more than ever, it really does suck that the Phoenix sports market is more concerned with who is coming to town as a determination for if they should go or not. Big name or not should be at least 25-30k there
