Area Roundup: Oak Hills wrestling thumps Apple Valley, improves to 2-0 in MRL

The Oak Hills wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the season in Mojave River League action with a victory over Apple Valley.

The Bulldogs thumped the Sun Devils 66-12 at home Thursday night.

Oak Hills scored 42 points by pinfall. Lane Saunders (120), Noah Carr (126), Isaac Hernandez (145), Julian Jeong (160), Dylan Bentz (170), Xander Jacobs (182) and Charles King (220) each scored pinfall victories.

For Apple Valley, Jayson Orosco scored his team’s only points via pinfall. Apple Valley scored six points by forfeit.

Orosco has not lost a league match over the past two seasons.

Oak Hills is back in action on Jan. 6 against Sultana.

The Sun Devils improved to 5-3 on the season with a victory Saturday night.

Michael Dominguez led the way for Apple Valley with 22 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Jordan Hope filled up the stat sheet with nine points, 10 steals and five rebounds.

Victor Valley 45, Diamond Ranch 24

At Azusa, the Jackrabbits picked up a win in the consolation bracket’s title game Saturday in the Azusa tourney.

My’yaaunnie Gauff led all scorers with 16 points and added nine steals. Malaysia Leonard and Jewel Rencher each scored 10 points, and Deshae Hunter added nine points with 11 rebounds.

Victor Valley (10-4) is back in action against Carter in the first round of the Serrano tournament on Dec. 27.

Hesperia Christian 42, CIMS 31

The Patriots improved to 3-0 in Cross Valley League action with a victory over the Cougars on Friday night.

Kailey New led the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds; Reah Racobs added seven points and 15 rebounds; and Averie Nebel tallied six points with eight rebounds.

Hesperia Christian is back in action Tuesday against Lucerne Valley.

Apple Valley 41, Arlington 17

The Sun Devils picked up a nonleague victory over the Athletics on Monday.

Sara Wahl led Apple Valley seven points, five rebounds and five steals, and Isabelle Cornejo had five blocks.

The Sun Devils (6-5) are back in action against El Modena on Dec. 27.

PREP GIRLS SOCCER

Serrano 1, Costa Mesa 0

Samantha Favela scored a goal on an assist by Mariah Kavanaugh to lift the Diamondbacks in the Best of the West Tournament on Saturday.

Ryan Munoz tallied four saves in goal.

Also in the tournament, Serrano played Rancho Buena Vista to a 0-0 draw. Munoz logged 10 saves in goal.

Serrano is back in action against Burroughs on Jan. 5.
