AREA MENU: Childress-Holliday highlights Friday's high school football schedule

FRIDAY’S SPECIAL

CHILDRESS at HOLLIDAY

When/where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Eagle Stadium

Live updates: Follow @CoryHogueSports on X (formerly Twitter).

Records: Childress 2-1; Holliday 2-1

Last game: Bushland 42, Childress 13; Holliday 19, Idalou 0

Last meeting: Holliday 28, Childress 14 (2022); Childress leads the all-time series 7-6-1.

Players to watch: Childress, Scout Smith (QB/WR/LB, Sr.), Drake Rabe (QB, Jr.), Da’Reon Mathis (RB/DB, Sr.); Holliday, Collin Hays (RB/LB, Sr.), Grant Cox (QB, Sr.), Parker Jones (LB, Jr.).

Why it’s tasty: Both teams have been state-ranked at times this season, and the lone loss for each came against teams currently state-ranked. … The two programs also started finding postseason success around the same time. Childress has advanced to the postseason in 10 straight seasons, winning at least 10 games three times during that span. Holliday has made the postseason in eight consecutive seasons and has won at least 10 games in six straight seasons. … Holliday’s defense was back to living up to its reputation last week with a shutout of Idalou. In their two wins, the Eagles have allowed seven points. … Childress hasn’t lit up the scoreboard with 51 points through the three games. Holliday has scored 59 this season.

Why it’s tasty: Every matchup in this series has been competitive. When the Raiders and Coyotes were in the same district together, their game was typically for a playoff spot or key to figuring out postseason seeding. … In last season’s matchup, the Raiders scored with 57 seconds remaining for a 44-38 victory in a game that featured 11 lead changes and two ties.

GRAHAM at IOWA PARK

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday, Hawk Stadium

Live updates: Follow @trnsports and @naomi_TRN on X (formerly Twitter). Listen at network1sports.com/station/iowapark. Watch at youtube.com/@iphawks1738.

Records: Graham 3-0; Iowa Park 1-2

Last game: Graham 45, Glen Rose 21; Iowa Park 34, Burkburnett 14

Last meeting: Graham 31, Iowa Park 17 (2022); Graham leads all-time series 28-14-1.

Players to watch: Graham, Ty Thompson (QB, Jr.), Peyton Kinman (WR/DB, Sr.), Rylan Monsey (RB, Jr.); Iowa Park, Rody Williams (WR/DB, Jr.), Parker Allen (QB, Sr.), Barrett Brown (TE/LB, Sr.).

Why it’s tasty: Records can often be thrown out in this rivalry matchup in recent years. … Iowa Park is coming off its much-needed first win of the season but has been competitive in every game this season. … Graham’s combination of experience and athleticism has proven more than its three opponents so far could handle. The win over Springtown looks better after the Porcupines dominated Hirschi last week. And the Steers had little issue with defending Region II-4A Division I champion Glen Rose last week.

ARCHER CITY at HENRIETTA

When/where: 7 p.m. Friday, Bearcat Stadium

Why it’s tasty: Both teams are hungry to get back on the field after last week’s games were canceled due to lightning. … Henrietta has won the last two meetings in the series as this is the fourth consecutive season the Bearcats and Wildcats have met. … Henrietta is benefitting from the emergence of Klein Essler as a consistent receiving threat, taking some pressure off dual-threat quarterback Garrett Blevins. … Archer City has filled the holes on its roster impressively, keyed by junior Landon Smith stepping in at quarterback.

Why it’s tasty: Hirschi needs to bounce back from consecutive losses, including last week’s disappointing performance against Springtown. The Huskies have never lost to Ranchview and beat the Wolves by 50 last season. … Ranchview won its third game in the past four seasons last week. The Wolves went winless in 2020 and 2021, winning two games last season.
