AREA FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Four things we learned from Week 7
The final stretch of the high school football season is here after teams just completed Week 7 of the season.
Next week, the final district races will get started, but most area teams have been fighting for playoff spots and district titles for weeks now.
Here are four topics that caught our eye from Week 7.
Jacksboro the team to beat in 6-3A
Just a month ago, Comanche was considered District 6-3A Division II’s favorite to repeat with Jacksboro as the Indians’ biggest challenger.
But Comanche suffered a couple injuries and the Tigers kept plugging along. With a 30-22 comeback road win over the Indians, now Jacksboro should be considered the favorite. They’ll face Millsap (the other 2-0 team) in two weeks.

7-2A Division II gets more messy
Haskell rallied to edge Archer City 34-33 on Friday, meaning the Wildcats will enter their county rivalry matchup against Windthorst with a 1-2 mark.
It looks like the Trojans and Seymour are 7-2A Division II’s top teams, and they’ll square off in two weeks. Haskell may have a leg up for third place, but now the Wildcats likely must beat Petrolia if they’re going to make the playoffs.
City View learns from experience
For the second straight week, the Mustangs blew a double-digit lead at home. City View built a 32-7 advantage Friday against Callisburg, but the Wildcats came roaring back and took the lead with 26 straight points.
City View answered with a 55-yard touchdown from Jacobe Monroe, who threw for 402 yards, retaking the lead for good.
Don’t count out Iowa Park
The Hawks entered 3-3A with only one win on the season, but they took down Breckenridge and Bowie to start off 2-0.
Iowa Park now faces the other top three teams in its district starting with Vernon, a team the Hawks upset last year. IP has done what it’s needed to do to likely claim a playoff berth, but now it will be playing for a higher seed and potential district title.
