Area baseball: BHS Bruins, CV Trojans seize spring break 'W's

Like a solar-powered tumbleweed, Bartlesville High School’s varsity baseball is streaking home from Alabama with a surge of momentum.

Meanwhile, the Caney Valley High School Trojans displayed amazing comeback prowess in a win this week at Wyandotte High School.

Following are more details:

Bartlesville

The Bruins climbed all over White House Heritage (Tenn.) High School, 10-2, like a rolling storm during their final game in the Gulf Shores Coast Classic (Ala.) on Wednesday.

By the end of the third inning Bartlesville (6-7) had spurted to a 7-1 lead and never looked back.

Kaden Romesburg pitched the distance — fashioning a six-hitter with three walks and two strikeouts — to earn the win.

On the offensive side, the Bruins again counted heavily on the bottom of their lineup — six-hole hitter Damien Niko swatted a double and a single and plated four runs, while seven-hole plate warrior Sam Marcella contributed a double and two RBIs.

Up at the three-hole, Brendan Asher ripped two hits, drove in three runs and scored three times. Grant Clark, Barrett Merciez and Romesburg contributed one hit each, with Clark and Merciez both recording a RBI.

The Bruins, who are coached by Cody Price, gusted through their spring break tourney with a 3-1 record to create a needed boost heading into the remainder of the season.

Wednesday’s performance was the first time the Bruins had scored 10 runs in 12 games. Their 21 runs scored during the four-game tourney compared to just 29 runs scored the first nine games.

Caney Valley

The Trojans (6-2_ are sailing on a three-game winning skein after snapping out two wins this week — 22-0 vs. South Coffeyville and 7-5 vs. Wyandotte.

They won’t be back in action until Monday when they journey to Claremore.

Against Wyandotte, the Trojans displayed their gladiatorial mettle by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh to power to the victory.

“Our bats got hot at the end,” Caney Valley head coach Andy Fox said. “They (Caney Valley players) battle for seven innings, which is a good thing. You never feel you’re out of it. … That’s really what you want to see.”

Cooper Brim lashed a solo homer — against a wind blowing in at 30 miles per hour. Easton Davis delivered the game-winning hit, a two-run safety, to put the Trojans into the lead.

Carson Leach started on the mound against Wyandotte but was relieved late by Davis, who garnered the win, with Brim as their catcher. Leach uncorked eight K’s.

In the shutout of South Coffeyville, Brim pitched most the way before Logan Horsman threw the final inning. Bryor Bonde caught.

“Logan Fowler had a nice day both days,” with multiple hits, Fox said.
