Area athletes compete in region meets at Groton, Britton, Elkton and Gettysburg

GROTON — Sierra Wenzl earned four firsts and helped Milbank's teams sweep the Region 1A track and field titles again on Thursday.

Milbank's boys won their seventh-straight region title with 171 points and the girls their fourth straight with 224 points. Nine schools competed.

Wenzl won the 400-meter dash and ran on the winning 400 (Laney Forrette, Gemma Street and Jacy Dexter), 800 (Forrette, Maurina Street and Isabelle Anderson) and 1,600 (M. Street, Anderson and Ellie Neugebauer) relays.

Milbank's girls also got wins from Bianca Berry (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Nadia Thue (300 hurdles), Amelia Pederson (discus) and Maggie Kruger (pole vault). Berry, Neugebauer, M. Street and Ashlynn Batchelor teamed to win the 3,200 relay.

Payton Brown won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and anchored the winning 3,200 (Liam Heller, Bryan Meyer and Beckham Berry) relay for Milbank's boys. Max Lightfield swept the hurdle races.

Camryn Rohlfs of Redfield won the 100 and 200 dashes and the long jump in the girls division. Other area event winners included Faith Traphagen of Groton Area (800 run), Addison Heinje of Dakota Hills (100 hurdles), Chloe Langager of Sisseton (shot put), Eva Benike of Dakota Hills (high jump) and Aspen Reynolds of Groton Area (triple jump).

Groton Area's Jerica Locke, Rylee Dunker, Kella Tracy and Taryn Traphagen won the medley relay.

Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State won the boys' 400 dash and 800 run. Other event winners were LaVonte Carter of Sisseton (100 dash), Gavin Witt of Webster Area (200 dash), Matthew Mount of Webster Area (shot put), Logan Ringgenberg of Groton Area (discus), Jeron McCreary of Webster Area (high jump), Mike Smith of Tiospa Zina (long jump), Jayden Munroe of Aberdeen Roncalli (triple jump) and Drew Reetz of Webster Area (pole vault).

Reetz and Witt also ran on Webster Area's winning 800 (Martin Dorsett and Carson Mount) and 1,600 (Mount and Trey Dunse) relays. Groton Area won the 400 (Andrew Marzahn, Ryder Johnson, Korbin Kucker and Keegen Tracy) and medley (Kucker, Lane Tietz, Tracy and Blake Pauli) relays.

Region 1B

BRITTON — Northwestern repeated as the girls division champion and Warner took the boys division in the Region 1B meet on Thursday.

Northwestern won the nine-team girls division by a 146-129 margin over Warner, which topped Hitchcock-Tulare 126-106 for the boys division title.

Shawnteah LaCroix of Aberdeen Christian (girls) and Logan Permann of Warner (boys) each won the 100 and 200 dashes and ran on the winning 400 and 800 relays. Ali Isakson and Lauren Meyers ran on both relays for Aberdeen Christian and Payton Skarin (400) and Grace Steger (800) rounded out the teams. Zachary Wood, Hunter Cramer and Payton Volk teamed with Permann on Warner's relay winners.

Other boys division winners were Josh Thorson of Northwestern (400 dash), Lincoln Woodring of Northwestern (800 and 1,600 runs), Milo Sumption of Frederick Area (3,200 run), TJ Salmen of Hitchcock-Tulare (110 and 300 hurdles), Dustin Wurtz of Leola (shot put and discus), Zach Ries of Waverly-South Shore (high jump), Chays Mansfield of Warner (pole vault) and Abe Kretchman of Aberdeen Christian (long and triple jumps).

Frederick Area's boys won the 1,600 and medley relays with runners Stephen Achen, Gavin Nickelson, Brayden Sumption and Jonathan Bretsch. Wyatt Tosse, Gage Storley, Jaxon Zuehlke and Daniel Person won the 3,200 relay for Britton-Hecla.

Sofia Losure of Frederick Area (400 dash, 300 hurdles and high jump), Avery Miles of Hitchcock-Tulare (800 run), Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Lauren Marcuson of Warner (100 hurdles), Ana Ratigan of Northwestern (shot put), Stacia Carda of Warner (discus), Cassidy Hardie of Warner (pole vault), Sterling Mertens of Britton-Hecla (long jump) and Ella Haven of Northwestern (triple jump) won events in the girls division.

Northwestern won the 1,600 (Payton Grandpre, Ella Haven, Josie Sparling and Ashley Haven) and medley (Grandpre, Teresa Melius, E. Haven and Sophia Troske) relays. Addisyn Heinrich, Brooke Haaland, Reese Holm and Shaye Sauerwein of Warner took the 3,200 relay.

Region 2B

ELKTON — Deubrook Area held of Wolsey-Wessington to sweep the team titles in the Region 2B meet on Thursday.

The Dolphins topped Wolsey-Wessington 156-134 in the boys division and 155-151 in the girls division. Eight schools competed.

Treven Grimsrud won the 400 dash and Deubrook Area swept the relays in the boys division. Gavin Landmark and Landen Johnson ran on three winning relays and Richie Meyer, Blake Coners, Colin Bauman, J.P. Rogness, Jaxon Quail and Grimsrud two each. Jake Jorenby and Charlie Olsen also ran on a winning relay.

The Dolphins got wins from Ellie Olsen (300 hurdles) and Akasha Gorecki (triple jump) in the girls division and also won the 1,600 (Brooke Koppatschek, Kaden Bowne, Kylee Johnson and E. Olsen), medley (Bowne, Delaney Pedersen, Miranda Moravetz and Johnson) and 3,200 (Nora Olsen, Makenna Ekern, Johnson and E. Olsen) relays.

Joey Hoverson (100 and 200 dashes), Caleb Richmond (800 run), Moshe Richmond (high jump) and Carson Walters (pole vault) all won events for Wolsey-Wessington in the boys division.

Dax Frandsen of James Valley Christian (1,600 run), Lance Kaufmann of Arlington (3,200 run), Tayne Herrmann of James Valley Christian (110 hurdles), Brody Bass of Castlewood (300 hurdles), Damon Wilkinson of De Smet (discus and shot put), Gavin Waldner of James Valley Christian (pole vault) and Thomas Aughenbaugh of De Smet (triple jump) also won events.

Girls division winners included Chloe Raw of Arlington (100 and 200 dashes), Adison Moore of Iroquois-Lake Preston (400 dash), Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington (800 run), Kaelyn Ulschmid of Arlington (1,600), Hadasah Olson of James Valley Christian (3,200 run), Alexa Goertz of James Valley Christian (100 hurdles), Hadlee Holt of I-LP (shot put and discus), Jada Burke of De Smet (high jump), Tatum Luce of Wolsey-Wessington (pole vault) and Mya Boomsma of Wolsey-Wessington (long jump).

Boomsma also ran on the winning 400 relay with Lainey Uttecht, Riyli Peterson and Kailynn Dorris. Castlewood won the 800 relay with runners Cassidy Kirwan, Presley Knecht, Chloe Ribstein and Mackenzie Everson.

Gracie Lange placed in jumping events and also ran on the winning girls' 400-meter relay in the Region 6B track and field meet on Thursday, May 18 at Gettysburg. Ipswich swept the team titles in the meet.

Region 6B

GETTYSBURG — Ipswich topped nine schools to win the boys (198.5 points) and girls (144) division titles in Region 6B.

Faulkton Area (128) and Potter County (108) finished second and third, respectively, in the girls division and Herreid-Selby Area edged Faulkton Area 84-80 for second place in the boys division.

Trevor Heinz (100 dash and long jump), Ian Beyers (800 run), Lucas Rowland (shot put), Tyler Hettich (high jump) and Brody Davis (pole vault) won events for Ipswich's boys, who also won the 3,200 relay with Turner Thorson, Beyers, Casey Geditz and Maxwell Kulesa.

Ashley Ptacek won the triple jump and Marley Guthmiller the pole vault for Ipswich's girls. Brianna Geditz, Gracie Lange, Vanesa Diaz and Ptacek took the 400 relay.

Daniel Stoll of Faulkton Area won the 200 dash and ran on the winning 400, 800 and 1,600 relays in the boys division. Garrett Cramer and Roman DiMaria also ran on all three relays, Cade Schick two and Spencer Melius one.

Other event winners were Carter Luikens of Potter County (400 dash), Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Rory McManus of Lyman (110 hurdles), Brayden Goehring of Herried-Selby Area (300 hurdles) and Brenden Begeman of Herreid-Selby Area (discus and triple jump).

Sunshine Bible Academy won the medley with Daniel Gerbracht, River Jones, Jensen Wipf and Troy Paul.

SBA also won the 800 (Tessa Hinman, Betra Amare, Darby Boersma and Abby Hinman) and medley (Natasha Appel, Boersma, Hinman and Amare) relays in the girls division. Boersma took the 400 dash.

Other girls division winners included Breanna Joachim of Herreid-Selby Area (100 dash), Megan Seurer of Potter County (200 dash), Emma Schlachter of Potter County (800 run), Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Stevie Wittler of Sully Buttes (100 hurdles), Dannika Kaup of Potter County (300 hurdles), Lydia Hill of Sully Buttes (shot put and discus) and Addison Melius of Faulkton Area (high and long jumps).

Potter County won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays with Kaup, Rayel Persoon, Jadyn Ahlemeier and Schlachter running on both.

Region 6A

The Region 6A meet scheduled for Thursday was pushed back to Friday in Mobridge.
