Arch Manning makes Texas debut

Arch Manning, the nephew of Indianapolis Colts legendary quarterback Peyton Manning, made his collegiate debut Friday night for the Texas Longhorns in a 57-7 win over Texas Tech.

Manning, a true freshman, was on the field for two drives late in the fourth quarter. He completed 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards while adding seven rushing yards. He truly ran for 17 yards but lost 10 yards rushing on a botched snap in the red zone.

Manning showed off plenty of athleticism and rushing ability, the later of which he did not get from either of his uncles. He can still count his true freshman season as a redshirt considering the rules state players can compete in up to four games while still maintaining redshirt eligibility.

In the scenario that starter Quinn Ewers declares for the 2024 NFL draft, Manning would theoretically compete with Maalik Murphy for the starting role. Murphy stepped in for Ewers earlier in the season when the latter dealt with a shoulder injury.
