Angel Reese gets assessed intentional foul on Kamilla Cardoso in first half vs. South Carolina

The LSU-South Carolina rivalry is a fierce and competitive one, especially when it renews in the postseason.

During the second quarter of LSU women's basketball's SEC Tournament championship matchup vs. No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday, Tigers star forward Angel Reese was originally assessed with a common foul but it was upgraded to an intentional foul following review. Star South Carolina shooter Te-Hina Paopao went on to hit both free throws.

Reese's foul came on the LSU side of the court with the SEC Player of the Year trying to gain position on Gamecocks forward Kamilla Cardoso in a characteristically physical matchup.

Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso defensive battles

As with past games between these two SEC rivals, the entire first half was a competitive and physical battle. Cardoso and Reese have a history themselves, dating back to earlier this year when Cardoso blocked and stared down Angel Reese in Columbia.

LSU is currently projected as an 2 seed in ESPN's latest NCAA Women's Tournament bracketology. The Tigers could potentially move up a seed line with a win over South Carolina.

2-seed LSU trailed 1-seed South Carolina 36-32 at halftime in Sunday's SEC women's basketball tournament championship. At the time, Reese only had four points despite grabbing a game-high seven rounds.
