Amazing buzzer-beater by Chloe Larry sends Parkway to the LHSAA Non-Select D-I title tilt

When the postseason accolades are handed out in the coming weeks for Louisiana girls high school basketball, the name of Parkway’s Chloe Larry should be at the top of every list.

The senior, nicknamed the Quiet Assassin, made a shot heard around the world to send her Lady Panthers into the LHSAA Non-Select Division I state championship game for a third consecutive season. She drilled a half-court shot at the buzzer in overtime for a 64-63 victory over No. 1 Walker (35-1) Thursday night in Southeastern’s University Center.

That gives the underdog Lady Panthers (25-4) a chance to defend last year’s title that came with the best player in the country, LSU’s Mikaylah Williams, as the team leader. They’ll play the Mandeville-Denham Springs winner at 6 p.m. Saturday in Hammond.

Larry poured in a game-high 29 points while Dakota Howard added a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Savannah Wilson chipped in 12 points.

The Lady Panthers, who defeated Ponchatoula for the 2023 title, were hit with a technical foul for an allegedly illegal uniform prior to the opening tip then fought back from a 15-point deficit to send the game into overtime. It didn’t help that Parkway’s two top scorers, Chloe Larry and Dakota Howard, received their fourth personal fouls in the third quarter opening the doors for Walker to potentially put the game away.

But Larry is at her best when the pressure is on and she almost single handily willed her team into the championship game for a third consecutive season.

Howard was tagged with her fourth with 4:38 remaining in the third and fouled out in overtime while Larry was whistled for her fourth with 2:47 left in the same frame.
