New Phoenix Suns “Ring of Honor” inductees Shawn Marion and Amar’e Stoudemire are scheduled to attend the unveiling of the banners and murals for honorees at halftime of the home opener Oct. 28 versus the Utah Jazz at Footprint Center.

The banners will float from the rafters above the west sideline of the seating bowl. The player inductees will have their uniform number and last name on the banners.

Non-player inductees like coach Cotton Fitzsimmons and play-by-play announcer Al McCoy will have their years of tenure and last name displayed.

Local artists have been called upon to create the murals that will be displayed on the walls of the upper level throughout the CarMax Concourse.

Suns players Charles Barkley (left), Kevin Johnson, and Danny Ainge are all smiles as they confer late in the triple-overtime period of their 129-121 win over the Chicago Bulls on June 13, 1993, in Chicago. Also in on the celebration are Tom Chambers, rear left, and Dan Majerle.

“The members of the Ring of Honor played a central role in creating the organization’s storied history and it was important that we honor them in a way that will always be on display,” said Phoenix Suns team owner Mat Ishbia in a news release. “These legends helped define the Suns and are integral members of our family, connecting all generations of our fans throughout the past 55 years. The permanent banners and murals will serve as a constant tribute to their contributions to the team’s history and how they paved the way for the next era of Suns basketball.”

The WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury will have a “reimagined Ring of Honor” as well as that will be announced going into the 2024 season.

The Suns open the 2023-24 regular season on Oct. 24 at Golden State on the NBA’s opening night.
