Alabama women's basketball contingent watches Spring Garden's Ace Austin at AHSAA Final Four

BIRMINGHAM — Alabama women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry was in attendance at the AHSAA Final Four, during Spring Garden's girls basketball matchup with Elba on Monday.

Spring Garden's Ace Austin committed to the Crimson Tide ahead of the season back in November. The commitment came a week after Curry was seen at the AHSAA Class 1A volleyball game watching Austin. Curry was joined in Birmingham by assistant coach Roman Tubner and players Sarah Ashlee Barker, Aaliyah Nye and Loyal McQueen. The group sat courtside on the Spring Garden side of the court.

Austin has helped lead the Panthers to another AHSAA Final Four as they try to defend their 2023 state championship. Austin has averaged close to 20 points a game while adding seven rebounds and seven assists per game this year.

Austin is a junior and will join the Crimson Tide as part of the 2025 class. Austin is the 2023 Class 1A Player of the Year and earned Gadsden Times honors for her volleyball performance this past fall. The Panthers are trying to pair a basketball title with their volleyball title.
