Alabama high school soccer playoffs: How Montgomery area teams performed in opening round
The Alabama high school soccer playoffs kicked off this week for the whole state, while Class 6A played their second round games Tuesday.
Several Montgomery-area team’s advanced on to the next round that is scheduled for this weekend. Here are the major takeaways from games played Monday and Tuesday.

Montgomery Academy advances in Class 6A
Montgomery Academy boys and girls defeated Pike Road and will travel to Spanish Fort for its third round matchup.
The girls were led by Sophia Cho and Kerstin Daniel with a goal scored each in a 2-0 sweep over the Patriots. John Allen Lachney scored the game winning goal to propel the boys team to a 3-2 victory.
Saint James roll advance as Catholic and Trinity fall
Saint James boys and girls team shutout Prattville Christian and will face Tuscaloosa Academy in the third round.
Montgomery Catholic boys and girls both fell to Orange Beach. In a 2-1 loss for the girls, Eryn Owens scored the only goal for the nights. Goalkeeper Heather Walski had 16 saves with 2 goals against.
Trinity boys and girls team fell to St. Micheal Catholic and will matchup against Orange Beach next round.
Other River Region playoff scores
Marbury girls defeated Elmore County 3-2 and Sylacauga defeated Brewbaker Tech 4-1. Brewbaker boys defeated Sylacauga 1-0.
