Alabama high school football: Predictions for Gadsden area Week 8 games

It's Week 8 of the high school football season in the Gadsden area, which means it’s time to look at three area games that should have major implications as the playoff picture comes into focus.

After a 3-1 week in Week 7, Max is now 22-5 on the year and looking to get back to his undefeated ways.

Game of the Week: Fyffe vs. Pisgah

Fyffe has one blemish on the schedule but rolled in every game since then, with multiple shutouts while scoring 50 points a game. Pisgah has no blemishes and rolled through their schedule, almost to the level of Fyffe. This is a major game in the Class 2A, Region 7, that should decide the region. This one features two teams ranked in the Gadsden Times area top-ten.

Fyffe has been getting it done the Fyffe way, strong rushing offense with an even stronger defense. Logan Anderson is back in form after a knee injury. Pisgah has been taking advantage of the talent at skill positions, getting it done with Legion McCrary and Mason Holcomb. With Fyffe's year-in, year-out dominance and consistency it's hard to pick against the Red Devils, until they shown otherwise.

Max's pick: Fyffe 45, Pisgah 28

Sardis vs. Boaz

These two teams are barely separated on the map and both desperately need a win if they want to keep playoff hopes alive. Sardis has been the surprise story of the season at 5-2 in BJ Brooks first season, and in a good spot to make the playoffs if they can beat Boaz.

Boaz has been more up-and-down this year, dropping a couple games that they weren't expecting to. There was high expectations around the program going into the season and so far they haven't been met. Expect Sardis to continue on their surprise run this week with another win.

Max's pick: Sardis 35, Boaz 21

Cherokee County vs. Etowah

This was a game that has been circled going into the season, two of the top teams in Class 4A, Region 6 matching up with playoff implications on the line. Except its not the implications that anyone was expecting, Cherokee County is looking to wrap the region up this week while Etowah needs a win to stay in the playoff picture and avoid one of the worst seasons in Blue Devil history.

The stars should shine bright for the Warriors, giving them a region championship.

Max's pick: Cherokee County 53, Etowah 17
