Akron Zips basketball forward Enrique Freeman up for Naismith Karl Malone Award

University of Akron forward Enrique Freeman has been named a finalist for the prestigious Karl Malone Award presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Freeman, a senior forward, ranks fifth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring (18.5 points per game), is the conference’s leading rebounder (12.8 rebounds per game) and enjoyed 13 consecutive double-doubles this season before coming up one rebound short against Kent State to extend the streak. Freeman, one of 10 finalists up for the award, ranks second in the nation in rebounding in Div. I men’s basketball.

He has been the MAC Player of the Week seven times this season.

Fans can vote for their favorite players beginning Friday at hoophallawards.com. The fans vote will count as one committee vote during the selection process.
