The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board approved school realignments for spring sports in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years Thursday, starting a new era for several Montgomery area teams.

Here is a look at the trending Montgomery area realignment changes across the spring sports:

Saint James moves up in Tennis

After crowning four individual girl state champions this season, Saint James tennis was promoted to the Class 4A-5A. Alabama Christian, who was in the Class 4A-5A last season, will move down to Class 1A-3A.

Tennis powerhouses Trinity and Montgomery Academy will stay in their current classification. Montgomery Academy’s Class 7A singles champion Gabby Barrera returns for her final season after finishing undefeated. Trinity’s James Treadwell also returns following a Class 6A individuals state championship.

Major news in soccer

Saint James soccer was promoted to the Class 4A and Montgomery Academy is going to Class 7A.

After a record-breaking girls soccer season to the schools first ever Class 3A title, Saint James will be in the same area as neighboring rivals Trinity, Montgomery Catholic and LAMP.

Montgomery Academy’s move to Class 7A will be exciting. They’ve enjoyed plenty of success in Class 6A, with multiple trips to the state tournament.

Other moves around multiple sports

Trinity & Montgomery Academy will remain in Class 4A for Track in Field. They were the only two programs in the area to have individual title winners at the state meet. Montgomery Academy’s Indoor Track Team will be moving up from 1A-3A to 4A-5A.

Trinity baseball will remain in Class 4A. After the retirement of hall of fame coach Ken Whittle, the school promoted assistant coach Chad Mansmann as the next head coach Wednesday.
