At age 78, Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder agrees to five-year contract extension
He is 78 years old, and he has coached college football for more than 40 years, but Bill Snyder is not stopping any time soon.
Snyder agreed to a five-year contract extension Thursday with Kansas State. Not only does the extension increase Snyder’s compensation to $3.45 million a year from last year’s $3.2 million, but it also includes $300,000 increases over the next two years.
The raise would likely move him from No. 35 on the list of highest-paid coaches to No. 30 or more.
“It has been a pleasure watching our football program up close over the past year,” said Kansas State athletics director Gene Taylor, “and seeing one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football continue to positively impact student-athletes while also producing winning seasons on a yearly basis.”

Snyder accepted the head coaching position at Kansas State in 1989. He retired in 2005 but returned in 2009, and he has led the Wildcats to 19 bowl games in that span. Kansas State has competed in eight-straight bowl games, and it won the Big 12 title in 2012.
As of Thursday’s news, Snyder will stand on the sidelines as the Wildcats attempt to win another. The 78-year-old is not leaving Manhattan any time soon.
