AFC South standings update entering Week 8

Roughly halfway through the season, the AFC South division seemingly has a team preparing to runaway with the top spot entering Week 8.

While two teams were on a bye, one team found its way to a victory on the road in prime time while the other was on the wrong end of two incorrect calls leading to a heartbreaking loss.

Here’s a look around the AFC South at the division standings entering Week 8:

Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2)

Conference record: 3-2
Point Differential: +27

Week 7 result: Win (31-24 at Saints)
Week 7 recap: The division leaders have now won four games in a row. Getting this win on Thursday night, Travis Etienne scored two rushing touchdowns for the third consecutive game while Trevor Lawrence was efficient working through a knee injury. Jacksonville is once again on the road coming up.

Week 8: at Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)

Houston Texans (3-3)

Conference record: 2-2
Point Differential: +22

Week 7 result: Bye week.
Week 7 recap: Despite being on a bye, the Texans moved up one spot in the division.

Week 8: at Carolina Panthers (0-6)

Week 7 result: Loss (39-38 vs Browns)
Week 7 recap: While often times we say teams got robbed in a loss, this one is indisputable. According to Jim Irsay, the NFL admitted to making two incorrect penalties at the end of the Week 7 game. Had the first one not been called, the game would have ended on a recovered strip sack, resulting in a win. But that wasn’t the case, and the Colts lost at home in the final seconds.

Week 8: at New Orleans Saints (3-4)

Week 7 result: Bye week.
