Adrian, Tecumseh girls swimming prepare for new season
The Adrian girls' swim team is coming off a tremendous season a year ago, one in which the Maples finished in the top five in the state.
The swimmers returning are looking to keep that momentum going.
Here’s a preview of the Adrian and Tecumseh girls swimming and diving teams:
MAKING A SPLASH: Adrian girls swimming enjoy successful season
SEC TITLE: Maples make waves in SEC title race
ADRIAN
Coach: Robert Petkus
2022: 8-3
Returning swimmers: Senior Eleanora Andre; Juniors Victoria Vredeveld and Kayla Holt; Sophomores Ella Salenbien, Izzy Brown, Haylee Vore, Brandi Darr, Emma Pino, Michelle Elizondo, Aubree Gallant, Sarah Sterling, Reese Beauleaux, and Alexis Marks.
New: Freshmen Nicole Rodocker, Melody Casto, Allison Marks, Anna Saunders, Madison Betz, Alexis Fox, Emma Pierce, and Mia Ayers.
Outlook: Salenbien and Andre were on the state champion 400 relay a year ago. Salenbien is school record holder in 50 Free Style, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay. Andre is school record holder in 200 Free Relay and is a contender in the 100 Breast and 200 IM. Pino was a state qualifier in multiple events and Beauleaux was state qualifying diver as a freshman.
Coach says: “They are not going to start as strong as the team was last year, but the potential on this team is through the roof. Nineteen of the 22 swimmers are underclassmen, but they are led by a great captain and will do amazing things this year. We are also fortunate enough to have three very skillful divers to help round out the team which all have their eyes on making it to the state meet.”
TECUMSEH
Coach: Betsy Olberg
2022: 6-7 overall, 2-3 conference
Returning swimmers: Seniors Norah Fraker and Madison Moore; Junior Jazlyn Reau; Sophomores Kellie Fahey and Ciel Stolberg.
New: Freshman Madison Proskie, Kailley Davies, Camryn Nowak and Kaylee Hicks.
Outlook: Reau and Fraker are captains. “Jazlyn swims year-round and has high expectations for herself,” Olberg said. Several of the Tecumseh swimmers swam with the Dundee/Tecumseh Swim Club team over the summer.
Coach says: “We are a small team again this year, but these girls have a lot of potential. All of them are coming in with great technique in the water and good work ethic. I can't wait to see what they will do this season.”
