Adrian College, Siena Heights sports from Feb. 25 - March 2

ADRIAN — The Adrian College women's hockey team claimed the Slaats Cup Saturday as it beat St. Norbert, 2-0.

Callie Wollschlager and Maya Roy scored the Bulldogs' goals while Tia Lascelle and Nicole Pietrucha had the assists and Michaela O'Brien made 22 saves in the shutout.

Adrian will receive an automatic bid in the NCAA Division III tournament.

The men's team will have to wait for an at-large bid to know for sure if it'll be back in the NCAA Division III tournament after falling to St. Norbert, 3-1, in the final.

Jaden Shields made it a 2-1 game in the second off an assist from Zachary Heintz and Mathew Rehding, but St. Norbert extended the lead back to two goals three minutes later.

Wrestling

The Bulldogs are sending three to the NCAA Division III national championships as Blake Williams (174), Dylan Wellbaum (184) and Mason Slocum (285) all advanced.

Williams took second overall, forfeiting the title due to the injury however, while Slocum took third while Wellbaum placed fourth.

Baseball

After going 2-1 in the opening weekend in Alabama, the Bulldogs went west for a three-game series with No. 16 Chapman in Orange, California.

Adrian won Game 1, 6-5, in 12 innings. Daniel Gutierrez went 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out eight. Lincoln Lipinski (Onsted) tossed 2 2/3 shutout innings while Ryan Davis got the win and Luc St. Antoine got the save.

David Kedrow went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run while Nic Bruder and Easton Rogers each had two hits.

Adrian lost Game 2, 5-3, with AJ Miranda went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBIs. Jaxon Clark took the loss going five innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

In the finale, the Bulldogs lost in a tight, 3-2 game.

Jakob Charles went 7 1/3 innings and gave up three runs, on eight hits and no walks while striking out three.

Bruder had two hits to lead the Bulldogs.

Women's Lacrosse

The Bulldogs started strong Thursday, scoring the first three goals in a 12-6 win at Madonna.

Mariana Miller had five goals and an assist while Sarah Gross had three goals and Jessica Price had two goals and an assist. Lucia Commare had one goal and two assists while Maggie Bean had a goal and Addison Krzyak and Sophie Mondro had an assist.

Megan Steffey had nine saves.

Men's Lacrosse

The Bulldogs fell to Oberlin on the road Saturday, 16-8.

Adrian trailed 8-6 at the half, but Oberlin controlled the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 8-2.

Brandon Hoerauf had three goals while Michael Jonas had a goal and two assists and Austin Selvage had a goal and an assist. Cameron Reed, Riley Edwards and Bowen Sparks all scored while Derek Hassel had an assist.

Men's Volleyball

The Bulldogs were swept by Baldwin Wallace on Friday, 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 before falling in four to Mount Union on Saturday, 25-19, 27-29, 25-16, 25-20.

Chase Heuer had 27 kills, 13 digs and five aces while Andrew Gawrisch had 66 assists and an ace and Jacob Rembulat had 12 digs.

Track and Field

Emme Koutz was the top Bulldog as she took second in the 800-meter (2:13.82) at the Mount Union Last Chance meet.

SIENA HEIGHTS

Women's Basketball

The Saints advanced to the WHAC final with a 70-64 win against Concordia in the semifinal.

SHU trailed 19-13 after the first, but tied it up, 34-34, at the half and led 55-47 after the third.

Kayla Hinton had 22 points, five assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block while Brooke Rebman had 12 points, E'Anna Won had 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals and Jakarri Alven had 10 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block.

The Saints had a slow start offensively, but maintained their lead against Lawrence Tech in the WHAC quarterfinals Wednesday as they won, 61-45.

SHU led 9-7 after the first quarter, 28-23 at the half and 43-36 after the third before the Saints pulled away in the fourth.

Hinton had 17 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists while E'Moni Guice-Finch had 11 points, two rebounds and a steal and Alven had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Track and Field

Emma Valentine won the NAIA national title in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-9.75-inches.

Valentine set the SHU record with the leap while teammate Faith Jackson set the record in the 60-meter dash (8.49) to earn All-American honors well in fifth.

Baseball

The Saints picked up win No. 1 on the season Friday as they beat Valley City State, 12-11, in Orlando, Florida.

Gino Hutchinson hit a grand slam while Brayden Hill went 2-for-5 with a run and a double while Cole Mason hit a double, stole a base and scored two runs. Cole VanWasshenova went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Andrew Baum tossed three shutout innings with a hit and a strikeout.

Men's Basketball

The Saints season came to an end in the WHAC quarterfinals as they lost to Madonna, 72-60.

Shawn Brown had 23 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists while Delano Williams had 14 points, an assist, a steal and a block. Colin Nutter had 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.

SHU finished 11-18 and will return four of its five starters.

Men's Volleyball

The Saints dropped a five-game match Tuesday against Lawrence Tech, 25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13.

Jonathan Stovring had 13 kills, eight digs and six blocks while Daniel Rua had 12 kills, three digs, two aces and a block. Zak Tucker had 37 assists, 12 digs, six aces, two kills and a block.

SHU swept St Mary-Woods on the road Friday and Saturday, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20, 25-11, 28-26.

Marc Arsenault had 21 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and two assists while Rua had 16 kills, three digs, two assists and an ace. Tucker had 63 assists, 12 digs, two kills, two blocks and an ace while Jacob Kisner had 19 digs.
