Actor Robert Wuhl visits GABP, gets in-person gut punch of Graham Ashcraft no-decision

Actor Robert Wuhl, who starred in Arliss among many television shows and movies and had some of the funniest lines in "Bull Durham," attended the Cincinnati Reds' 6-3 loss Friday night to the Washington Nationals at Great American Ball Park with his goddaughter and was impressed with the 28th Major League venue he's visited.

Wuhl revealed in an interview during the game with Bally Sports Ohio's Jim Day that he's been friends with analyst, former Moeller High School standout and National Baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin for about 30 years. He talked about how his famous "candlesticks always make a nice gift" line in "Bull Durham" was ad-libbed/improvised and his wife's idea. And he mentioned that the Reds' starter Friday, Graham Ashcraft, is on Wuhl's fantasy baseball team and was his final pick in his draft.

Ashcraft was cruising while Wuhl was talking to Day. But as he approached 100 pitches, he gave up a game-tying, two-run home run in the top of the 8th inning.

We don't know how many points Wuhl's team could've earned with an Ashcraft win (vs. no-decision), but it had to be disappointing.

"To watch this exciting team. Who figured this? This is great to see," Wuhl said of the Reds.
