ACA's Ian Bailey's 38 points leads WNC Week 12 winter sports top performers

Here are the WNC athletes who have had big performances this week in winter sports.

Friday

Boys basketball

Cameron Rattler, Andrews: Rattler recorded an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double, but the Wildcats lost to Robbinsville 53-51.

Luke Smith, Cherokee: Smith led the Braves with 22 points, helping Cherokee to an 85-63 win over Hayesville.

Elijah Lineberry, Cherokee: Lineberry added 20 points in the Braves' win.

Caiden Brewer, East Henderson: Brewer had a dominant night in a 63-48 win over Tuscola: 34 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Malachi Simpson, Hendersonville: Simpson scored 17 points, helping guide the Bearcats to an easy 76-25 victory over Chase.

David Olivo, McDowell: Olivo led the Titans with 29 points, his career high, in a win over North Buncombe, 86-64.

Rylan Parkins, McDowell: Parkins added 23 points in McDowell's win.

Asante Martin, Owen: Martin scored 19 points and added five assists as the Warhorses beat Rosman 79-46.

Gunnar Alm, Polk County: Alm scored 19 points in a loss against R-S Central. The Wolverines fell 61-50.

Jacob McGraw, Roberson: With 15 points and 13 rebounds, McGraw's effort led Roberson to a 56-44 win over Enka.

Jed West, Tuscola: West had 20 points to lead the effort for the Mountaineers in a loss to East Henderson, 63-48.

Jackson Lyda, West Henderson: Lyda's double-double, recording 20 points and 11 rebounds, helped West Henderson knock off Pisgah 71-63.

Girls basketball

Sara Larios, Asheville Christian Academy: Larios was the Lions' leading scorer in a 54-42 win over Brevard, scoring 19 points.

Rebekah Bass, Asheville Christian Academy: Bass put up an impressive stat line: 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Hayziah Dillingham, Asheville High: The junior scored 17 points and added six steals in a 74-39 loss to Reynolds.

Ryann Hernandez, Asheville School: Hernandez recorded 28 points and nine rebounds to lead the Blues to a 68-47 win over Gray Collegiate Academy.

Lily Everette, Carolina Day: Everette had 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in Carolina Day's 49-41 loss to The Master's Academy.

Avery Moffitt, Franklin: A 19-point, 11-rebound double-double from Moffitt played a major role in Franklin's 83-45 win over North Henderson.

Keira Wilson, Mountain Heritage: Wilson's 12-point, 12-rebound double-double pushed the Cougars to a 48-44 win over Avery County, extending their win streak to 14 games.

Ellie Martin, Owen: Martin scored 24 points, but Owen fell to Rosman, 75-44.

Julie Janus, Reynolds: Janus scored a season-high 20 points and added eight assists in Reynolds' 74-39 win over Asheville High.

Peyton Harvey, Reynolds: Harvey scored 20 points of her own, along with six rebounds and five assists.

Marlee Carnathan, Rosman: Carnathan's 22 points led the way for the Tigers in a 75-44 win over Owen.

Jaza Wilson, West Henderson: Wilson had 13 points, seven assists and three steals, leading the Falcons to a 47-39 win over Pisgah and earning at least a share of the Mountain 7 Conference title.

Swim and Dive

Joshua Poche, Brevard: Poche finished second in the 200-yard freestyle at the boys 1A/2A Regional Final with a time of 1:51.01.

Julia Sherrill, Brevard: Sherill's 100-yard breaststroke time of 1:10.07 helped her beat out the competition for a 1A/2A regional title. Sherill finished third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.30.

Lily Fender, Mountain Heritage: Fender won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.59 at the girls 1A/2A Regional Final. Fender's time of 2:00.36 in the 200-yard freestyle also earned a third-place finish.

Luke Gonzales, Pisgah: Gonzalez won the 50-yard freestyle at the boys 3A Regional Final with a time of 21.89 and his time of 48.31 in the 100-yard freestyle earned him a second-place finish.

Taylor Goodwin, Roberson: Goodwin earned a podium finish at the girls 4A Regional Final. Her 5:03.31 time in the 500-yard freestyle earned a third-place finish. She also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle.

Thursday

Boys basketball

Miki Gacic, Asheville School: Gacic put up 20 points in a loss to Christ School, 84-45.

Zymicah Wilkins, Christ School: Wilkins' 20 points guided Christ School to an 84-45 win over Asheville School.

Max McDowell, Roberson: McDowell's 21 points and five assists were the key to Roberson's 55-48 victory over rival Reynolds.

Girls basketball

Tait Harvey, Reynolds: The freshman scored a career-high 22 points in a 76-23 defeat of Roberson.

Wednesday

Boys basketball

Rylan Parkins, McDowell: With 25 points, Parkins led the Titans to an 85-63 win over Erwin.

Jack Wesley Burk, Owen: Burk tallied 22 points, a team-high for Owen in a narrow 65-63 loss to Madison.

Asante Martin, Owen: Martin added 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Girls basketball

Sage Young, McDowell: Young's 14 points led McDowell to a 63-28 win over conference rival Erwin.

Lexi Powell, Rosman: Powell scored 17 points, guiding the Tigers to a 69-13 win over NCSSM: Morganton.

Tuesday

Boys basketball

Cameron Rattler, Andrews: Rattler scored 16 points and recorded 11 rebounds, but his double-double wasn't enough in a 78-70 loss to Cherokee.

Jailen Powell, Andrews: Powell made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

Tre Crite, Brevard: Crite totaled 19 points with eight rebounds and five assists to guide Brevard to a 70-48 win over R-S Central.

Baker Buchanon, Brevard: Buchanon's 18 points were second-most for the Blue Devils. He added six rebounds.

Jack Teesateskie, Cherokee: Teesateskie scored 21 points to lead Cherokee's comeback 78-70 victory over Andrews.

Luke Smith, Cherokee: Smith added 18 points in the Braves' victory.

Cole Boyer, Christ School: Boyer scored 14 points, leading Christ School to a 69-39 win over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and its first outright Carolinas Athletic Association championship since 2018.

Max McClure, Franklin: McClure's 24 points led a trio of 20-point scorers in a big 77-74 win over conference foe Pisgah.

William Rauers, Franklin: The freshman scored 21 points, adding five rebounds and three 3-pointers.

Braylen Dezarn, Franklin: Dezarn added 20 points and six rebounds for the Panthers.

Malachi Simpson, Hendersonville: Simpson's 28 points led the way in Hendersonville's 86-42 win over Polk County.

CJ Landrum, Hendersonville: Landrum added 24 points in the victory.

Jace Loven, Mountain Heritage: Loven scored 30 of his 35 points in the second half of a 66-61 win over Owen.

Cale Harger, Murphy: Harger's 17 points led the Bulldogs in a 68-53 loss to Robbinsville.

Jack Wesley Burk, Owen: Burk's 20 points led the Warhorses, but Mountain Heritage won 66-61.

Bryce Adams, Robbinsville: Adams scored 19 points with nine boards, leading the Black Knights to a 68-53 win over Murphy.

Girls basketball

Sara Larios, Asheville Christian Academy: Larios scored 19 points and added eight steals and six assists as ACA beat Carolina Day 55-30.

Kylie Donaldson, Andrews: Donaldson scored 12 points, totaling nearly half Andrews' points in a 78-26 loss.

Dvdaya Swimmer, Cherokee: Swimmer scored 18 points to help Cherokee beat Andrews 78-26.

Whitney Rogers, Cherokee: Rogers added 18 points of her own with four 3-point makes.

Cali Queen, Franklin: Queen had 23 points in Franklin's loss to Pisgah, 70-47.

Ava Shook, Hayesville: The sophomore's 20 points and five assists allowed Hayesville to down Swain County, 52-28.

Keira Wilson, Mountain Heritage: Wilson's 14 points and 13 rebounds gave the Cougars a 72-32 win over Owen. She also had four blocks.

Peyton Taylor, North Henderson: Taylor had 14 points and 15 rebounds in the Knights' narrow 45-44 win over Tuscola.

Bailee Davidson, North Henderson: Davidson added a double-double of her own with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Bailey Staton, Polk County: Staton scored 18 points, leading the Wolverines to a 36-32 win over Hendersonville and moving them into a tie for second in the Mountain 7 Foothills Conference.

POLK'S POWER: Bailey Staton is a 'firecracker' for Polk County girls basketball. Just ask anyone.

Monday

Boys basketball

Cameron Rattler, Andrews: Rattler's 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals pushed the Wildcats past Summit Charter, 81-8.

Logan Shuler, Andrews: Shuler added 19 points in Andrews' overwhelming win.

Ian Bailey, Asheville Christian Academy: Bailey scored 38 points with five rebounds and five assists, as ACA beat Carolina Day 77-35.

Girls basketball

Sara Larios, Asheville Christian Academy: Larios recorded an unconventional double-double with 16 points and 11 steals. She also had seven rebounds in a road win at Carolina Day, 57-35.

Rebekah Bass, Asheville Christian Academy: Bass also tallied a double-double with points and steals, with 13 points and 10 steals.

Ryann Hernandez, Asheville School: Hernandez scored 15 points with five steals in a 75-42 win over Tabernacle Christian.

Taylor Williams, Carolina Day: Williams had a more conventional double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the 57-35 loss to ACA.
