Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked to have taken the upper-hand in the first leg as teenager Amad Diallo made his stunning introduction, scoring a looping header in the second half. However, United lost that advantage in the final few seconds of the match as Simon Kjaer levelled the score and secured a crucial away goal for Stefano Pioli’s side.
The Italians dominated for large passages of play at Old Trafford and will be further boosted by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has scored 14 goals in as many leagues games this season, despite turning 39 last year. However, they did lose momentum at the weekend, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Napoli that has dented the club’s hopes of beating rivals Inter to the Serie A crown.
