9 Salem-area swimmers to watch at the OSAA state championships
The OSAA swimming state championships will take place Friday and Saturday at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.
Friday's preliminaries kickoff with Class 6A at 9 a.m. followed by 4A/3A/2A/1A at 1:45 p.m. and 5A at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, finals begin with 6A at 8:15 a.m., 4A/3A/2A/1A at 1:15 p.m. and 5A at 6:30 p.m.
Here are nine Salem-area swimmers to watch this weekend.
Jarrod Coy, West Salem
West Salem sophomore Jarrod Coy is seeded fourth in the 6A boys 500 freestyle (4:49.18). He is also seeded 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:48.36).
Gentry Hagedorn, Central
Central junior Gentry Hagedorn is seeded second in the girls 5A 50 freestyle (24.85). She is seeded fourth in the 100 butterfly (59.82).
She placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly last season.
Nolan Horner, Silverton
Silverton sophomore Nolan Horner is seeded fourth in the 5A boys 50 freestyle (22.53). He is also seeded sixth in the 100 freestyle (50.48).
He placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle last season.
Breeza Rodriguez, Silverton
Silverton sophomore Breeza Rodriguez is seeded sixth in the 5A girls 100 backstroke (1:03.96). She is seeded 11th in the 200 IM (2:24.60).
Mark Seledkov, Woodburn
Woodburn junior Mark Seledkov is seeded third in the 5A boys 100 butterfly (55.11). He is seeded fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.47).
He placed second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly last season.
Bethany Wagar, Stayton
Stayton senior Bethany Wagar is seeded sixth in the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls 200 freestyle (2:12.44). She is seeded 11th in the 100 freestyle (1:01.05).
Leah Ellerbee, Stayton
Stayton freshman Leah Ellerbee is seeded fifth in the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls 200 individual medley (2:28.28). She is seeded 12th in the 100 back (1:08.95).
Eliana Kuenz, Salem Academy
Salem Academy junior Eliana Kuenz is seeded sixth in the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls 50 freestyle (26.63).
Jacob Gehley, Cascade
Cascade senior Jacob Gehley is seeded second in the 4A/3A/2A/1A boys 100 backstroke (58.57).
