9 breathtaking photos of the supermoon known as the ‘sturgeon moon’ in 2023

Did you see the supermoon up in the sky on Tuesday night? It’s another supermoon in 2023, and this one is just as beautiful as the “super flower blood moon,” the “strawberry moon” and the “buck” or “thunder” moon.

It’s the “sturgeon moon,” and it was seen on Tuesday night, on August 1.

Why is it named after a species of fish? From USA TODAY: It “[earned] its name from the Farmer’s Almanac because of the type of fish that was easily caught this time of year.”
