89th minute stunner: Riverland ties Minnesota West with late score in 2-2 soccer match

Sep. 28—AUSTIN — In a game which was evenly played from shots on goals, to fouls and saves Minnesota West finished with a 2-2 tie to Minnesota College Athletic Conference rival Riverland on Wednesday night.

Minnesota West scored twice in the first half. Their first goal came from sophomore Edgar Carrillo in the opening 10 minutes of play. Carrillo was assisted by Anton Cordes.

Just before the half hour mark, Cordes netted a goal of his own for a 2-0 advantage.

Five yellow cards were shown to players — one to Minnesota West center back Levi Calia and four to Blue Devil.

Nicolas Llanos , Luis Lofego, Diego Prada and Emiliano Hernandez were all carded.

The Riverland Blue Devils scored two goals in the final third of the match. Scoring both goals was Byuoy Lia on assists from Kalab Tadesse. Lia's first goal came after 72 minutes of play and his second goal came in the final minute.

Minnesota West goalkeeper Eli Robinson made four saves in the game.

Minnesota West will travel Monday to play Dordt University JV. Earlier this season the Bluejays defeated Dordt 2-1 at Buss Field on Sept. 9, 2023.
