NFL Week 17 action includes the NFC-leading San Francisco 49ers (11-4) heading east to take on the Washington Commanders (4-11) at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

The 49ers head into their penultimate game of the regular season following a tough 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football. San Francisco's offense had a season-high five interceptions and the team ended its six-game winning streak in prime time on Christmas Day. Quarterback Brock Purdy, previously the MVP frontrunner, had the worst game of his NFL career with four interceptions. The 49ers' defense held the top-ranked Ravens rushing attack to a season-low 102 yards on the ground but it wasn't enough to get the win.

Washington's been in a free fall since a Week 9 win on the road against New England. Consecutive losses to Seattle, the Giants, Dallas, Miami, the Rams, and the Jets have fans looking forward to a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Starting quarterback Sam Howell was benched for Sunday's game against the 49ers in favor of Jacoby Brissett but Brissett is questionable with a hamstring injury. Either quarterback won't have much help; Washington's defense is allowing a league-worst 30.2 points and 384.3 yards per game.

This will be a reunion for 49ers defensive end Chase Young who Washington traded to San Francisco after Week 8. Washington selected Young second overall in the 2020 draft.
