4 things to know about Dolphins-Chiefs heading into Week 9

The Miami Dolphins are on the road again, but this we’ll they’ll be playing at a neutral site at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt Germany on Sunday for a Week 9 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head coach Mike McDaniel’s team is looking to earn their first victory against a team with a winning record during their 2023 campaign, while Kansas City is looking to prove that they weren’t the team that lost to the Denver Broncos last week.

However, we figured that we’d provide a few things that the Dolphins and Chiefs fanbases should know and think about before the game.

The Dolphins are 16-15 all-time against the Chiefs but are just 1-3 since 2010.

Miami is 1-4 in international games, but those games were all in England. Kansas City is 2-0 in international games with one game in England and one in Mexico.

The last time these two teams met was in 2020, with the Chiefs winning 33-27. In that game, Tua Tagovailoa hit Mike Gesicki for two touchdowns, and now Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill scored twice for Kansas City.

Injury concerns

The Dolphins had four key members of the team who didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice – running back Raheem Mostert, tight end Durham Smythe, right guard Robert Hunt and safety Brandon Jones.

They also had six players who were limited.

Kansas City had two who didn’t practice Wednesday – running back Jerick McKinnon and linebacker Willie Gay Jr.

They had just one player who was limited – punter Tommy Townsend.

  • Dolphins tight ends coach/assistant head coach Jon Embree was the Chiefs tight ends coach from 2006-08.

  • Dolphins offensive assistant Kolby Smith played for the Chiefs from 2007-09.

  • Dolphins assistant offensive line coach Lemuel Jeanpierre played for the Chiefs in 2010.

  • Dolphins cornerbacks coach/pass-game specialist Sam Madison was the Chiefs defensive backs/cornerbacks coach from 2019-21.

  • Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill played for the Chiefs from 2016-21.

  • Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah played for the Chiefs in 2019.

  • Dolphins tight ends coach/assistant head coach Jon Embree’s son, Connor, is the Chiefs wide receivers coach.
