4 memorable moments from QB Chad Henne’s Chiefs career

The Kansas City Chiefs notably have one of the best players in the NFL with starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, the work isn’t done alone as Mahomes shares a quarterback room with his veteran backup Chad Henne.

Henne first joined the Chiefs in 2018 when Mahomes first took over as a starter. The veteran NFL quarterback hasn’t only played a part in Mahomes’ development, but he’s also proven to be essential when called upon in relief, especially during the 2020 NFL season.

In honor of Henne’s 36th birthday (July 2), we look back at four memorable moments from his Chiefs career thus far:

Spike after touchdown run to seal victory over Broncos in 2020

Henne came on in relief late in the second half as the Chiefs were well ahead on the road against the Denver Broncos in 2020. Henne would complete his only two pass attempts of the night, but he scored his first touchdown in six seasons on a one-yard carry at the goal line. At the end of the play, the spike was the perfect exclamation for the 43-16 victory over an AFC West division rival. https://twitter.com/MichiganOnBTN/status/1320750785517522947?s=20

Starting Week 17 vs. Chargers in 2020

Henne was named the starting quarterback for the Chiefs' Week 17 home season finale vs. the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020. The veteran hadn't started an NFL game in six seasons, but he didn't disappoint. He shook off the rust and started the game going 6-of-6 passing with a touchdown. The Chiefs would lose the meaningless game, 38-21, but Henne finished with a respectable two touchdowns on 218 yards passing and no interceptions. https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1345845782134489089?s=20

After Mahomes was ruled out for the rest of the game, Henne stepped in at quarterback as the Chiefs battled the Cleveland Browns in the divisional round of the 2020 NFL playoffs. Henne facing a third-and-14, converted a first down on a remarkable run. He secured the victory with a perfectly executed short pass to Tyreek Hill on fourth down. The Chiefs would hang on to win the game 22-17 and advance to their third straight AFC Championship game. https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1350942147202191361?s=20 https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1350945739485147146?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1350945739485147146%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2Fpatrick-mahomes-other-nflers-react-on-twitter-to-chad-hennes-heroics-that-pushed-chiefs-to-afc-championship%2F

Viral praise for divisional round performance

The other moment for Henne took place off the field and was trending worldwide on social media. Henne's incredible performance in the Chiefs divisional-round victory over the Cleveland Browns had fans, analysts, and players praising him, especially the man he replaced in the victory Patrick Mahomes. The former league MVP coined the social media hashtag "#HenneThingIsPossible" in honor of Henne's exceptional effort. https://twitter.com/PatrickMahomes/status/1350942606201655297?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1350942606201655297%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2Fpatrick-mahomes-other-nflers-react-on-twitter-to-chad-hennes-heroics-that-pushed-chiefs-to-afc-championship%2F https://twitter.com/JeffAllen71/status/1350943822780489730?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1350943822780489730%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2Fpatrick-mahomes-other-nflers-react-on-twitter-to-chad-hennes-heroics-that-pushed-chiefs-to-afc-championship%2F https://twitter.com/dsleon45/status/1350942808836890625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1350942808836890625%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2Fpatrick-mahomes-other-nflers-react-on-twitter-to-chad-hennes-heroics-that-pushed-chiefs-to-afc-championship%2F
