Once again, the state of Hawaii could end up giving the Vanderbilt Commodores a huge boost in their recruiting class as national signing day gets closer.

Defensive line coach C.J. Ah You and head coach Derek Mason made the trek out to The Aloha State last weekend with key in-home visits scheduled, one of those being with Maui (Hi.) inside linebacker Feleti Afemui.

"It was awesome, had a great time meeting and talking with them," Afemui said.

"They talked about the program, the school, the team, the environment, the people, the things that are offered with the scholarship, and mostly everything I needed to know."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect has been a longtime target of the Commodores, who extended an offer back in April and have kept in constant contact throughout the recruiting process.

That's why the 3-star prospect is looking forward to his official visit to West End and take in everything Vanderbilt has to offer.

"My official visit date is January 28th, and I'm looking forward to meeting the people and staff there, seeing the facilities, the school, and the environment."

While the Commodores currently appear to be in the lead, Afemui does have one other official visit planned to a PAC-12 program.

"Planning for the 13th of January with Washington State."
