Here are 3 free agent QB options the Jets should consider amid struggles of Zach Wilson

Coming into the 2023 NFL season, the New York Jets had sky-high expectations and Super Bowl hopes.

After their 15-10 loss against the New England Patriots in Week 3, all hope seems lost for the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets, who now sit at 1-2 and in last place in the AFC East.

Following the game, coach Robert Saleh reiterated his confidence in Zach Wilson as the starting QB, saying "Right now, he's (Wilson) who gives us the best chance to win."

But actions speak louder than words and there have already been rumors of the organization adding another veteran QB to the mix.

Whether it's sooner or later, here are three signal callers I'd bring in to take over under center for the New York Jets for the rest of the season.

Joe Flacco

While free agent QB Matt Ryan may not have any interest in joining the Jets, one option I'd consider bringing back is Flacco.

The New Jersey native filled in admirably for the team at times last season. Flacco made five appearances for Gang Green, throwing for 1,051 yards and five touchdowns, and has made 12 starts for the Jets since 2020.

Despite going 1-4 during that span, he kept the Jets in games. Three of those five contests were one-score affairs against some of the top-tier teams in the NFL. In fact, the lone win Flacco earned was a miraculous 31-30 come-from-behind victory in which the Jets scored two touchdowns in the final 92 seconds.

There's no denying Flacco's immobility at 38-years-old, but I believe he gives the Jets the best chance of relevancy with his rapport from being in the building multiple times over the past three seasons with Saleh.

Colt McCoy

New York Giants quarterback Colt McCoy (12) throws against the Cleveland Browns in the second half. The Giants lose to the Browns, 20-6, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, December 20, 2020, in East Rutherford.

An outside shot that the Jets should look at is McCoy.

The former Giants QB was surprisingly released by the Arizona Cardinals prior to Week 1 after he was slated to get the starting QB job due to the injury to starter Kyle Murray.

McCoy made three starts (four appearances) for the Cardinals in 2022. Despite a 1-2 record, the 37-year-old QB completed nearly 80 percent of his passes.

Out of these three options, the biggest upside with McCoy is that he's the most mobile of the group and could use his legs.

Despite having no ties to the organization, McCoy is a QB I'd consider bringing in if they need a QB to start multiple games down the stretch.

Nick Foles

If Flacco or McCoy are not an available, another route I'd consider going is Foles.

The Super Bowl LII MVP is currently a free agent after he was released from the Indianapolis Colts earlier this offseason.

Foles last played against the New York Giants in the Meadowlands last season but left the game as he was carted off with a rib injury on New Year's Day.

It definitely is the least exciting avenue, but Foles could be in consideration with his veteran presence to join the Jets' QB room.
