3 cheap options for Raiders to replace WR Nelson Agholor in free agency

The Raiders would love nothing more than to bring back Nelson Agholor in free agency. After totaling 896 yards and scoring the second-most touchdowns on the team, Agholor was a perfect fit with Derek Carr. He could get open deep and didn’t need a ton of targets in order to be effective.

However, there is a great chance that the Raiders are unable to afford Agholor when free agency arrives and might need to search elsewhere to replace his production. Luckily, it’s a deep wide receiver class in free agency and there is value to be had.

Here are three cheap options the Raiders could consider to replace Agholor:

1. Keelan Cole, Jaguars

After a strong rookie season in which he totaled 748 yards on 42 receptions, Cole’s production has dropped off as the quarterback play in Jacksonville has been less than stellar. However, he still managed to produce for the Jaguars over the last four seasons, accumulating 2,250 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cole is set to become a free agent and would likely welcome a change of scenery. He can make plays down the field and after the catch, but he just doesn’t profile as a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver. Instead, he can be a high-level complementary player in the right offense and might be a perfect fit alongside Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards and Hunter Renfrow.

2. Breshad Perriman, Jets

Talent has never been an issue for Perriman as it’s injuries that have derailed his career. He’s bounced around the league now over the last four years, playing for four different teams. However, he’s remained highly effective whenever targeted, averaging over 18 yards per reception since 2018. In his last 36 games, Perriman has actually averaged over 41 yards on just 2.3 receptions per game.

If the Raiders want to add more speed to their offense this season, Perriman would be an excellent option. He should cost significantly less than Agholor, but offer the same (if not more) speed down the field.

3. Dede Westbrook, Jaguars

Another Jaguars’ receiver who has fallen out of favor, Westbrook is a speed demon who was held back by quarterbacks who didn’t want to throw the ball down the field. He was such a bad fit in the previous offense that he caught just one pass during the entire 2020 season. But now that he is a free agent, he should find a home on a better offense with more stable quarterback play.

Westbrook shouldn’t cost anything more than the veteran minimum, but he could easily be this year’s Nelson Agholor on the right team. Keep an eye on the former Oklahoma star as a possible fit for the Raiders in free agency.
