Saint James' Stonebraker voted Washington County Preseason Football Player of the Year

Saint James newcomer Sammy Stonebraker was voted The Herald-Mail’s Washington County Preseason Football Player of the Year.

The voting was conducted online Monday night through noon Thursday.

Stonebraker, a junior running back and linebacker, transferred to Saint James after two standout seasons at Clear Spring.

He earned the 2023 preseason honor with 24.54% of the vote (2,829 votes), edging Boonsboro senior lineman Nate Elliott (2,767 votes). Clear Spring junior lineman Nick Cullember finished third (1,471 votes).

Sixteen players, two from each Washington County high school team, were placed on the ballot.
