2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds, field notes, best bets and picks to win

The 2022 FedEx Cup playoffs are officially on the horizon as players are down to their last two opportunities to earn their way into the postseason.

This week, the PGA Tour is in Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club, a track designed by Donald Ross.

After a star-less event at the 3M Open, the RMC features some of the Tour’s best talent.

Patrick Cantlay is the betting favorite at +1000 with last week’s winner, Tony Finau, and Will Zalatoris next in line at +1500. Coming off a T-16 at the 3M, defending champion Cam Davis sits at +3000 to repeat.

I’m officially at the point where I need to be there when Zalatoris finally wins. I’ve invested too much in the kid, so here we are again. He has three top 5s in his last six starts and is coming off a top 30 at The Open.

At last year’s RMC, Zalatoris was 6 under after two rounds but imploded over the weekend. I don’t expect that to happen again. If he can make enough putts, he’ll be right there on Sunday.

Despite missing the cut at The Open, Homa’s game is in great shape. Before St. Andrews, he tied for 16th at the Scottish Open and fifth at the Memorial.

Homa grabbed a top 25 at last year’s Rocket Mortgage.

Like Zalatoris, Young is going to win at some point, and I want to be there for it.

With a new caddie on the bag at St. Andrews, Young eagled the last on Sunday to finish solo second behind Cameron Smith. He struggled for a month before that, tying for 60th at the Memorial and missing two cuts in three starts. I think he’s back.

Key stats rankings this season

  • Birdie or better percentage: 8th (24.92 percent)

  • Par 4s (350-400): T-90

McCarthy missed the weekend at last year’s Rocket Mortgage, but he’s been on a roll of late.

In his last four starts, he’s finished T-7 or better three times: The Memorial (T-5), U.S. Open (T-7) and John Deere Classic (his most recent start, T-6).

Key stats rankings this season

  • Birdie or better percentage: 127th (20.77 percent)

  • Par 4s (350-400): T-82

Bets to consider: Top 20 (+210)
