2022 NFL Draft order update: Where the Dolphins stand after Week 17

Despite what many of the players and coaches are saying after the loss to the Tennessee Titans, members of the Miami Dolphins organization are preparing for the offseason and the 2022 campaign.

With Miami eliminated from playoff contention, it’s only right to prepare for the next steps in their plan, and one of the most anticipated parts of the offseason, the NFL Draft, is just a few months away.

The Dolphins don’t own their own pick in the upcoming draft. That pick currently belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles, as it was used for Miami to move up and select wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the Dolphins do own the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round pick as a result of moving back originally in the first round.

After Week 17, the Dolphins’ original pick is slated to be the 14th overall selection in 2022, and their pick from the 49ers would be the 20th. Since the 49ers are currently a playoff team, their final position would depend on when they were eliminated. However, San Francisco has yet to clinch a postseason spot, so the pick could end up being even higher.

If things stick the way they are, that means Miami really only moved back six spots this year to move up and draft Waddle last year. That’s not a bad deal.

Now, there’s no guarantee that the Dolphins will make the pick in this draft, as there have been rumors about trades all year, but this is at least something that fans can look forward to.
