2022 NFL draft: Jets use 4th pick on WR in Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock

The beginning of free agency went a long way in shaping the Jets’ plans for the 2022 NFL draft.

Joe Douglas addressed needs on both sides of the ball during the first week of free agency. There is still plenty of work to be done, though, and the draft is the best time for New York to fill its remaining holes.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has the Jets making somewhat of a surprising move to address one of their needs in the first round of the draft in his latest mock. Let’s take a closer look at who Kiper Jr. has New York taking with its two first-round selections.

Round 1, Pick 4: USC WR Drake London

London posted gaudy numbers in just eight games during his final season at USC, catching 88 passes for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns. Does that production make him worthy of going top five, though? London has a skill set that would instantly help the Jets. He is a big-bodied deep threat at 6-foot-5 and a potential red-zone target for Zach Wilson to work with. However, taking him at No. 4 might be a bit of a reach given other needs and the likelihood that he could still available at No. 10.

Round 1, Pick 10 (via SEA): Cincinnati CB Ahmad Gardner

Gardner has impressive size at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds and can play in man and zone schemes without much of an issue. His length will likely appeal to Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich — to the point where he is preferred over LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. A big outside cornerback could be exactly what the Jets are missing in the secondary.
