2021 NFL free agency: Corey Davis’ projected market value

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis had his best year as a pro in 2020, and it came at the right time with the former No. 5 overall pick set to hit free agency in 2021 after the team declined his fifth-year option.

Davis, who was a key cog in the Titans’ elite offense this past season, totaled career-highs in receiving yards (984) touchdowns (five) and 100-yard games (five), and he tied his career-high mark in receptions with 65.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and while it’s easy to say the Titans made the wrong move in declining his fifth-year option after the season he had, it was the right move at the time after Davis failed to produce what you’d expect from such a high pick during his career.

As far as his market value goes, Spotrac estimates that Davis will receive a contract worth $39.4 million over four years, which works out to an annual average salary of $9.8 million.

Money is going to be tight for Tennessee this offseason, as the team currently sits over the salary cap if it does indeed go down to $176 million from the $198.2 million it was in 2020. However, the Titans need to find a way to bring Davis back. Along with A.J. Brown, Tennessee sported one of the best 1-2 punches at wide receiver in the NFL and that no doubt helped elevate Ryan Tannehill and the team's offense. Even if Davis returns, general manager Jon Robinson has more work to do at the position after the Titans lacked depth there this past season, even when Adam Humphries was healthy. The end goal should be to build a receiving corps. and passing attack that can put the team on its back when Derrick Henry isn't putting up big numbers, which was an issue in the wild-card loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Achieving that goal starts with bringing Davis back, and when you consider that the Titans are shelling out an average of $9 million per year for Humphries, re-signing Davis at around that price seems like a no-brainer.
