The 19 MetroWest girls soccer players to watch for the coming season
They're back. A breadth of girls soccer talent returns to MetroWest this fall.
Division 1 commits. All New England Stars. All-State players and All-Stars everywhere.
Eighteen teams reached the postseason last year. Algonquin played for a Division 1 state title. Wellesley (Division 1) and Dover-Sherborn (Division 3) raised Final Four trophies.
Many of the players that accomplished those feats were juniors and even sophomores last season. Keep an eye on them on fields and turf this fall:
Gabby Arpino, Sr., Framingham
The only one of the Flyers' three Bay State All-Stars last season was named a captain for 2023. Framingham graduated nine starters last season, including a pair of Division 1 commits, so there are opportunities for the Round of 16 participants a year ago.
Laney Beahn, Sr., Blackstone Valley Tech
The Central Mass. Division 4 All-Star led the Beavers to the Division 4 Elite Eight. She scored 12 goals with eight assists.
Tessa Broderick, Sr., Dover-Sherborn
The Tri-Valley All-Star is also a track standout and a former Eastern Mass. All-Star. She helped the Raiders get to the Division 3 Final Four last fall.
Yael Bugaev, Sr., Westborough
The all-state goalkeeper allowed just 10 goals in 17 starts last season. She posted 10 shutouts and scored two goals herself. Westborough dropped just one game last season reaching the Division 2 state tournament as the No. 7 seed.
Georgina Clarke, Sr., Hopkinton
The Boston College commit netted 21 goals in 15 games. She was an All-New England selection on top of All-State and was named the Tri-Valley League Large MVP and an Eastern Mass. All-Star. Clarke led the Hillers to the Round of 16 last fall.
Nathasha Ceol, Sr., Dover-Sherborn
The midfielder scored the lone goal in the Raiders' upset against top-seeded South Hadley in the Division 3 state tournament en route to a Final Four berth. She was named a Tri-Valley All-Star. She clogs up opposing attacks in the midfield and regularly wins possession back.
Juliana Grontzos, Sr., Hopkinton
The Connecticut College commit was one of four Tri-Valley All-Stars for the Hillers. They reached the Division 1 Round of 16 a year ago. She uses her physicality to displace attackers in the defensive third then find incisive passes forward.
Kendall Hacker, Jr., Natick
The wing back provides a calm versatility to the Redhawks defense. She was a Bay State All-Star last season, as Natick returned all three of their selections.
Peyton Keyes, Jr., Wellesley
A varsity starter since she was a freshman, Keyes earned All-State honors last year as a sophomore along with nods as an Eastern Mass. and Bay State Conference All-Star. She scored seven goals with six assists en route to the Division 1 Final Four.
Kaitlyn LeBrun, Sr., Natick
The backline stopper stacked up accolades leading the Redhawks to the Division 1 quarterfinals. She as named All-State, an Eastern Mass. All-Star and a Bay State Conference All-Star. LeBrun also scored two goals and plays for the FC Stars club team.
Kyah Montano, Jr., Nipmuc
Central Mass.' leading scorer last season still has two more years to terrorize defenses. She put away 34 goals last season leading the Warriors to the Division 3 Round of 15. Montano was an All-State player that also received both Central Mass. and Dual Valley Conference All-Star Recognition.
Kelly O'Connor, Jr., Franklin
The forward was named a Hockomock All-Star a season ago. She knows how to find space around the box and score goals with both her feet and her head. The Panthers reached the Division 1 Round of 16 a year ago.
Olivia Penn, Jr., Natick
The Redhawks have a fully stocked cupboard with three league all-stars in tow. Penn has strong composure in the midfield and uses her technical ability to ease Natick's play in transition.
McKay Pratt, Sr., Wellesley
Also a force on the lacrosse field, the Bay State All-Star defender scored a goal in Wellesley's season-ending state quarterfinal loss. She was an Eastern Mass. second-team All-Star, as well.
Jackie Rainville, Jr., Wayland
The Dual County All-Star is entering her third varsity season. She was also an Eastern Mass. all-star. Rainville scored seven goals with three assists in helping the Warriors qualify for the Division 2 state tournament.
Kylie Tomasetti, Sr., Algonquin
The midfielder was a Central Mass. Division 1 All-Star and helped the Titans reach the Division 1 state final last season. She also made the All-State team and was a Mid-Wach A All-Star. Tomasetti scored six goals with five assists in 24 games.
Ava VanBuskirk, Sr., Marlborough
The returning All-State selection has a shot at 100 career goals if she keeps up her torrid pace. VanBuskirk put away 33 last season and has 67 in her career. She's a two-time Mid-Wach B and Central Mass. All-Star that holds school records on the track and is a National Honor Society and MIAA Student Advisory Committee member.
Rachel Welch, Sr., Franklin
The UMass Lowell commit contributed to 13 shutouts a season ago, including five in the season's first six games. She was a Hockomock All-Star and plays for the Scorpions SC club team.
Anya Zub, Sr., Franklin
The forward will ply her trade at Stonehill next season. But she still has one more year to terrorize defenses for the Panthers. The Hockomock All-Star netted a hat trick against Belmont.
