#12 Jimmies women's volleyball gets four-set win over #5 Viterbo

Oct. 26—JAMESTOWN — The No. 12-ranked University of Jamestown showed off its championship mettle as they got a four-set win over No. 5-ranked Viterbo University (25-22, 29-27, 23-25, 25-18) on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Harold Newman Arena.

"I thought we played really well together," Jimmies head coach Jon Hegerle said. "We did a great job of slowing down the ball at the net and then I thought we defended really well. Grace (Hegerle) defended extremely well tonight."

In total in the match over the four sets, there were 31 ties and 32 lead changes. "

The first set was ultra-competitive as the longest run was a 4-0 run from the Jimmies to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 10-7 lead. The Jimmies' Aleah Zieske got a kill to push her team in front 13-12, and they never trailed again in the set winning the opening set 25-22.

Midway through the second set, the refs made two calls in favor of the V-Hawks (25-4) in a row as they took an 18-17 lead, causing Hegerle to explode off the bench in anger, yelling at the refs. The move worked to inspire his team as they went on a run to take a 22-19 lead. The teams continued to battle from there as the Jimmies (21-7) finished the set on a 3-0 run to get a 29-27 second set win.

"We had a play that they didn't call them on a back row block and the next play the same exact thing happened and they called us on a back row block," Hegerle said. "That's where I was really upset because it was the same exact thing that happened. That was frustrating. Sometimes though it does, it fires our team up. At the end of the third set when I got the yellow card, their player grabbed the ball and threw it down which is totally illegal and they both missed it, at 23-23 that's a huge point to give that team an advantage whenever I get fired up, our team seems to get fired up."
