10 Houma-, Thibodaux-area high school baseball players to watch in the 2024 season
High school baseball season in Louisiana starts later this month. The first games are on Feb. 17, with the regular season running through mid-April. The playoffs begin shortly after, and run through May, with the state championships awarded in Sulphur. The area All-Star Game will be played one week after the final title is awarded.

With baseball a little under two weeks away, here's 10 high school players to watch in the Houma- and Thibodaux-area this season:
Mason Carter, junior utility player, Central Lafourche
Carter can play three infield positions, the outfield, and even pitch a little from the right-hand side for the Trojans.
Brennan Champagne, junior outfielder, Covenant Christian
Champagne is a former All-State performer for the Lions and can play both in the outfield and at first base if needed.
Brody Dufrene, senior outfielder, Houma Christian
Dufrene can play all three outfield spots for the Warriors, and helped lead HCS to the regional round of the playoffs as a junior.
James Guidry, junior lefthanded pitcher, Vandebilt Catholic
Guidry is not only the ace of the Terriers' staff, he's one of the best pitchers in the state — he was named last season's Pitcher of the Year in Class 4A.
Brody Hebert, senior infielder, H.L. Bourgeois
Hebert is one of two Braves remaining from HLB's 2022 playoff run. That same season, he was named an All-State performer.
Logan Mallard, senior first baseman, South Terrebonne
Mallard is committed to play college baseball at Nicholls next spring and also serves as a pitcher for the Gators.
Michael Marcel, senior infielder/pitcher, A.J. Ellender
Marcel is one of five active players remaining from the Patriots' last trip to the LHSAA playoffs in 2022.

Cole Simoneaux, senior lefthanded pitcher, Assumption
While Simoneaux can also play first base and the outfield, he's best on the mound, having earned a scholarship to Nicholls.
Brody Trosclair, junior lefthanded pitcher, Thibodaux
Trosclair still has two seasons left with the Tigers — but after he graduates, he will play his college baseball at Northwestern State.
Tyler Weimer, senior righthanded pitcher, E.D. White
Weimer signed to play collegiately at Nicholls next season and he touches 90 miles per hour on his fastball.
