Pacman's going to sue ESPN

Sometime soon, Pacman Jones might get the rare pleasure of meeting a lawyer who is not working 'round the clock to keep him out of jail. It seems that Pacman didn't care for ESPN's report that he had arranged to have a man shot in an Atlanta nightclub in 2007, and he plans to sue.

From the Dallas Morning News:

Adam Jones is denying an ESPN report that he arranged for someone to shoot at three men outside a Atlanta night club.

In fact an angry Jones said he's planning legal action against the network.

"It will be a lawsuit in a week against ESPN," Jones said. "That's stupid. It's so stupid I have no more comments."

I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but my dream outcome for any potential Pacman Jones lawsuit against ESPN would be that ESPN agrees to air a special episode of "Outside the Lines" entitled "ESPN's sincere and heartfelt apology to the noble and kindhearted Adam 'Pacman' Jones, who has done absolutely nothing wrong."

ESPN's really put itself in a tight spot here. It went public with an accusation with no information on who the accusation comes from, and no reason why the information should be deemed credible, especially when the police investigation found no reason to press any charges against Pacman.

I guess that information's coming on a future edition of "Outside the Lines," and ESPN has put itself in a position now where that show had better deliver.

Look at Pacmans' history, he's an idiot ! No doubt in my mind the story will come out in full, and once again Pacman will be in the hot seat. If you were a NFL manager or General Manager, would you want this ulcer on your team?

Its slander no matter how you dice it. For ESPN to come out and state something they have no prove of just hear say is wrong, morally and legally. Jones should win this case easily, which I’m sure ESPN has no problems paying, should of never been said nor written no matter how much you dislike the person or how bad he’s been in other situations.

if, in fact, espn aired this based on nothing more than "he said, she said" then they deserved to get sued but i find it hard to believe the network lawyers would have allowed a story to air based on nothing but rumour or gossip.

I'd say no to the comment of wanting him on my team. I feel Jerry is getting rid of him because he didn't perform as expected, plus I think Jerry is trying to cleam up the Cowboys image before the opening of the new stadium. My guess and opinion.

T.O. is next, he's thirty five years old, and he's a disruption in the clubhouse. He does not have the skills he once had, he drops as many balls as he catches. Mark my words... he's gone!!

What people forget is that ESPN is short for ENTERTAINMENT Sports Programming Network. It seems like sometimes they get carried away with the etertainment part. Remember how they went after Michael Irvin when he was accused of participating in a rape and it was later proven he wasn't even in the same neighborhood at the time.
While I am in whole-hearted agreement with the Cowboy's decision to cut Pacman loose, ESPN has probably gone over the top on this one. If the police couldn't find any evidence that Pacman tried to have someone shot, then where did ESPN come up with this? If they have evidence, and have not handed it over to law enforcement, then they are guilty of obstruction. If this is just another tabloid rumor, then they need to be held accountable for that as well.
Pacman is a punk and I wouldn't shed any tears if he was sent away for life. I certainly believe he shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL again. But even a punk is innocent until proven guilty. Apparently, ESPN doesn't live in the same country the rest of us do.

agreed with #2... they do deserve it
i like espn as much as the next guy( or gal) who loves sports but they run so much shows just smashing peoples reputation left and right with only hunches or so called insiders whom are never named.
and i think its a joke how they defend people they like and just destroy the ones they don't.... like the whole Bret farve throwing interception thing they defended him like he was there son or something, to the point it seemed as if every so called expert blamed thomas jones and the rest of the jets for there season when its obviously Farve sucking it up with 22int.

I'm not sure that network lawyers really get involved in program selection or editing, etc. They may have been "consulted" in some way but even then, I highly doubt it.

I believe it was Ed Werder that came out with this story for ESPN. Now Ed is usually very dependable, as far as his information sources are. But if he wrote this piece without full documentation, whew, he might find his butt in the wringer.
( My apologies if the writer was not Ed Werder )

I don't know how the story can come on now when it couldn't come out before with investigators looking for something. Its been a couple of years now and no one has pressed chargers against him yet for that, so my guess they really have nothing but someone trying to find something to write about and like the tabloids writing two headed U.F.O aliens attacking the earth, which get sued all the time but by that time have made their money by people buy their junk, they have nothing on Jones.

With all this garbage that is being written like tabloids is making me weary of football , but I know by tonight and Saturday and Sunday I'll be ok again , but man why can't they just stick to football as far as the playoffs and superbowl , gives us more details , injury reports, or talk about whats happening in the training perparation fields. Anyway, tonight is the Gators and OKlahoma game then one day after kick off time. Wish they could find something to write about that pertains to football

ESPN basicly got Jones fired. Yes the Cowboys MAY have been planning to release him anyway, but maybe they had no plans to. Its alittle odd they released him after ESPN's report. They can't even officially release him for a few days.

Sorry Pac-kass - ESPN is notorious for double and triple checking on their stories and wouldn't dare air this unless they had the legal means to back it up. Waste more money on lawyers, ESPN will smash you in court (if it even goes that far) and you'll be that much closer to being curled up under a bridge somewhere with a glass pipe nearby.
