DaJuan Morgan: A safety and a poet

Shutdown Corner is happy to present a Q&A with former NC State safety and NFL Draft prospect DaJuan Morgan, who Rivals has going No. 32 overall.

Which would you rather have: A career where you make the Pro Bowl ten times, get elected to the hall of fame, and never win a Super Bowl ... or a long career where you're a solid player, but never make a Pro Bowl, have no shot at the Hall of Fame, but win three Super Bowls?

I'd rather win Super Bowls over any individual accomplishment. Winning a Super Bowl should be the ultimate goal!

I've read scouting reports about you that say you lack "hip fluidity." Have you considered showing those scouts this YouTube video of you getting loose after beating UNC last year?

LOL. In fact, I just might suggest that! But in all, I think I answered that at the combine in the drills where we had to show the flipping of the hips.

I've read that you're a poet. I think that's awesome. What kind of poems do you write? Any chance we could get you to share one of them with us?

Yes I do write poetry. Mainly love poems! This one was for my father!

I was only six years old when God called you home,
sixteen years later since time has moved on,
I’ve always wondered what you were like,
If you were strong, weak, or knew how to fight,
Some people told me to look in a mirror to see what you look like,
I never understood but now I see what you were like,
A strong handsome man that left with a fight,
Not having you around to show us wrong from right,
That hurts inside sometimes, I couldn’t sleep at night,
I wish sometimes that I could turn back the hands of time,
I would save your life even if it took risking mine,
But I can’t and No one can.. All I can do now is wish to see you again,
We could start all over, you could be my best friend,
As a tear falls from my eye, Dad we will meet again,

Love your son your best friend,
Dajuan Jamar Morgan

Do you watch any TV shows regularly?

The First 48 and Flavor of Love.

What are your favorite movies and books?

Too many movies, so I can’t really narrow it down, but I can say that if it’s funny, it’s a go for me. As for books, Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Songs of Solomon, and Their Eyes Were Watching God.

What's the most embarrassing CD you've ever owned?

Backstreet Boys

Describe an ideal night for DaJuan Morgan. Are you chilling out at home, or going out and tearing it up?

Well, I own over a hundred DVDs, so I’d pop one in whichever one I feel the mood for! Or I would invite a cutie pie over and watch one or two, order some take out and chill at the crib. I usually bring the party to me. I don’t really go out!

What's the first thing you're going to buy with your signing bonus?

A condo in the city that I get drafted to!

If you could have dinner with any three people in history, dead or alive, who would they be, and why?

The first person would be Dr. Martin Luther King, just to thank him for what he has done for this great nation! Second would be Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, guided his country through the most devastating experience in its national history--the CIVIL WAR. He is considered by many historians to have been the greatest American president. Third, Bill Clinton because he was the realest president in my eyes.

What's the best trash talk you heard, from either a fan or a player, in your college career?

Boston College fans were the funniest and rudest I ever heard, but I loved it!

What's your worst habit?

I don’t think I have one!

If you weren't a football player, what would you want to do with your life?

Too many things I would want to do, but I’m about to do the one thing I’ve always dreamed of doing the most!

If you could wake up tomorrow with one brand new skill or ability, what would it be?

The ability to be invisible!

Say your house catches fire, and all your loved ones and pets get out, and have the opportunity to save one thing in the house. What would it be?

Our childhood photo album because those are memories you want to share forever!

Convince the world that you should be the first safety taken in the draft.

I can tell the people a hundred reasons why I should be taken first, but I’m not!

Is there anything else you'd like to make sure the world knows about DaJuan Morgan?

I'd rather put in all in one sentence: Everything in life I had to work extremely hard for. Nothing was ever given to me!

(Ed. Note: Here’s another of DaJuan’s poems.)

Good guy....too bad the COLTS don't need a safety, his team first attitude would fit in perfectly. I wish him good luck, even though I saw him get burned quite a few times last season!

He seems like a very down to earth player. I hope the Dolphins take him at 32...God knows we could use a little help there.

Morgan got in a bad car accident in High School causing Ohio State to rescind his scholarship as a WR. OSU
were obvious weasels over the deal. Do a search on this guy, interesting guy and he seems to be one of the good guys. He did work hard to get here...

Sounds like a great guy, but do you think, just for one second, that he may have rehearsed or had a little preparation for this interview.

He seems genuine. Give the guy a break. Abraham Lincoln wasn't 100% white either. Do ya homework #6. I hope he does good. We could use him in Washington after loosing what could of been the best safety ever. RIP Sean Taylor. #21. Go SKINS !
