Winslow has tryout with Jets

Tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr. had a tryout with the New York Jets on Tuesday.

Winslow, who played in one game for the New England Patriots last season, had less than 24 hours to review the playbook but said he's comfortable with the West Coast style of offense the Jets run.

"My job is just to make plays and however it works out, that's how it works out. I'm a playmaker and my job is just to make plays. I'm just trying to make the team."

Winslow, who has a history of knee injuries, caught 75 passes for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2011 but wasn't in head coach Greg Schiano's plans when he was hired last offseason. The Bucs dealt Winslow to the Seattle Seahawks, who parted ways with the former University of Miami star before the start of the regular season. He hooked on with the Patriots in September, but asked for his release after just one game, reportedly due to chronic knee pain.

"I have years left," he said Tuesday. "My last year was 2011, I caught 75 balls. I've been productive. It's just the NFL - that's how it goes sometimes. You get cut, you get traded and you can't do anything about it. It's out of my control."
