UFC Fight Night 50 Gate and Attendance from Sold Out Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Connecticut on Friday night for UFC Fight Night 50: Jacare vs. Mousasi, making its first appearance in the state since UFC 55 in October of 2005.
The return was a success, according to UFC Senior Director of Public Relations Dave Sholler, who said that it was a sellout with 4,086 in attendance.
The sellout accounted for a gate of $479,620 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard.
The night started off slowly with the first three bouts going to decision, but concluded with all four main card bouts ending in impressive finishes.
Ben Rothwell scored a TKO stoppage of Alistair Overeem in the night’s co-main event. Overeem landed several knees and kicks early, one of which Rothwell said broke his arm when he improperly blocked it, but Rothwell remained patient and sent “The Reem” to the canvas with a hard overhand right.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, however, was the big winner, as he submitted Top 10 opponent Gegard Mousasi in the main event. The victory backed his claim to be the next middleweight contender behind Vitor Belfort, who challenges Chris Weidman at UFC 181 on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.
