UFC Fight Night 35 Card Grows with Addition of Three New Bouts

Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo Signs with UFC, Set to Fight Scott Jorgensen at UFC 177

The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently announced its return to suburban Atlanta with UFC Fight Night 35 slated for Jan. 15 at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.

UFC officials on Sunday added three more bouts to the UFC Fight Night 35 fight card: a welterweight contest between Jason High and Adlan Amagov, a middleweight bout pitting Brian Houston vs. Trevor Smith, and a lightweight fight putting Justin Edwards up against Ramsey Nijem.

High (18-4) slipped up in his UFC debut earlier this year and got submitted by Erick Silva. He bounced back, however, with a submission victory over James Head and a unanimous decision over Anthony Lapsley.

He faces another fighter that has seen some recent success. Amagov (13-2-1), like High, made his way to the UFC via Strikeforce. He’s won his three most recent fights, including his first two in the UFC, wins over Chris Spang and TJ Waldburger.

Houston (4-1) entered the UFC as an undefeated fighter, but lost his Octagon debut to Derek Brunson. Now, he’s looking to turn things around in his sophomore effort.

His opponent, Smith (10-4), is in much the same boat, having lost his promotional debut to Ed Herman.

Edwards (8-3) and Nijem (7-4) are each in a tough position within the promotion. Edwards has alternated between wins and losses, but finds himself with a 2-3 record in the Octagon. Nijem, who made his way to the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter, is currently 3-3 in the Octagon, but has lost his last two fights.

The winner between Edwards and Nijem takes the first step towards redemption, while the loser is skating on thin ice.

The UFC Fight Night 35 main event features a middleweight match-up between former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold and challenger Costa Philippou.
