Titans inform Chris Johnson he's being cut

Tennessee Titans star running back Chris Johnson's time in Nashville is officially over.

He was informed today that he's being released, according to the team.

Efforts to trade him were unsuccessful.

Johnson was due an $8 million base salary.

The Titans signed Johnson to a four-year, $53.5 million contract in 2011.

However, he hasn't had the same type of success since signing the deal.

Johnson has rushed for 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns since being drafted by the Titans in the first round in 2008 out of East Carolina.

The New York Jets have been rumored as a potential landing spot for Johnson along with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
