Tim Tebow's list of potential baseball suitors is reportedly growing

The Tim Tebow sweepstakes appears to be gaining more steam and more potential suitors with each passing day.

It was reported that 28 teams showed up to his Aug. 30 showcase. Over the weekend, we learned two teams — the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies — had emerged from the pack with defined interest in signing Tebow to a minor-league contract. Now though, there’s word that as many as eight teams have some degree of interest in the former NCAA and NFL quarterback.

This news according to FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal, who identified the Toronto Blue Jays as the newest known team in the mix.

Rosenthal has been a reliable source on Tebow’s baseball bid, so there’s reason to believe the information he’s received is accurate.

Again, we know it’s only a matter of time before Tebow lands somewhere. In fact, on Tuesday, Braves general manager John Coppolella made it clear that he sees “no risk” in signing Tebow. That attitude will certainly be shared in other front offices, because the long shot possibility of Tebow making it would be a bonus on top of the attention and other potential opportunities his signing would allow.

Baseball is a business, first. Always remember that. For now anyway, Tebow is still a big name and potential drawing card who brings some intrigue. The downside of signing him would be stunningly small compared to the potential rewards.

With that in mind, Tebow’s signing still doesn’t appear to be imminent. Assuming he signs in the next month, he would likely participate in the fall instructional league with an eye toward joining his club in spring training. From there, it’s anybody’s guess where he might end up, but the cameras and critics will be sure to follow.
