Texans' Foster, Reed on PUP

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster and safety Ed Reed are starting training camp on the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Thursday.

Foster is recovering from a strained calf suffered in workouts during the spring. Reed, a free agent who joined the Texans in the offseason from the Baltimore Ravens, had hit surgery in April.

The Texans want to ease both players into the routine during training camp, but there is a chance that the 34-year-old Reed may not see game action until the regular season.

Ben Tate is expected to fill in for Foster at running back during camp and rookie D.J. Swearinger will see extended action at free safety while Reed is out.

Foster rushed for 1,424 yards on 351 carries during the regular season in 2012 -- his third straight season with more than 1,200 yards on the ground. Reed was part of a defense that helped the Ravens win the Super Bowl in February.
