Source: Lakers’ Xavier Henry to miss remainder of season
Xavier Henry suffered a season-ending Achilles’ tendon rupture Monday, becoming the third Los Angeles Lakers player to be lost for the season, a league source told Yahoo Sports.
The Lakers’ training staff suspected that Henry had suffered a tear in practice, and an MRI on Monday afternoon revealed the rupture of his left Achilles’ tendon.
The Lakers have already lost guard Steve Nash and forward Julius Randle for the season. The Lakers were granted a disabled-player exception of $1.5 million to acquire a player before March 10.
Henry had been part of non-contact, three-on-three drills in practice when the tendon snapped, the Lakers said.
Henry, 23, has struggled to regain his past explosion after fighting through knee injuries over the past two seasons. Between the Lakers and rehabbing in the NBA Development League, he had been averaging 2.2 points in 9.6 minutes per game this season.
The Lakers are 3-11 and destined for one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
